Today we took advantage of the fee-free weekend at National Park Service sites and visited Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange, #NewJersey. The site is composed of the laboratory complex and Edison's home, Glenmont, in Llewellyn Park. Glenmont, a 29-room estate, was built between 1880-1882 and is located in the gated Llewellyn Park, America's oldest planned community. Edison wired the home for electricity in 1887. This park was established December 6, 1955 as Edison Home National Historic Site, Edison National Historic Site in 1962, and finally redesignated as Thomas Edison National Historical Park on March 30, 2009. The site is also home to a replica of the Black Maria, the world's first film production studio.
