Oh Boy. (LN7)
164 pages in, finally, a JinMao interaction to talk about. And boy is this one to talk about.
Maomao wants Jinshi to be sufficient. Jinshi wants to be helped. (Hyperindepence vs. learned helplessness AND immense difference in status). Jinshi is sleep-deprived and overworked and very lonely.
Jinshi says Maomao always puts him off. Maomao's feelings aren't at the point yet where she is fine with the danger being near Jinshi brings. Jinshi wants her close, while at the same time never clearly saying what he means: Maomao gets to act obtuse.
Maomao is desperate to avoid him because talk like this is troublesome and pesky and Jinshi is already in a bad mood/sleep deprived. Maomao wishes he would just sleep. Jinshi is the problem for her, and he isn't, but also he is. Maomao calls time spent with herself a waste of time. To her, it is.
In return, Jinshi calls her exhausting to be around. Lakan is mentioned, and yet it's Luomons name that sets her off, because Maomao just had a disagreement with him. Luomon, the person she cares about the very most, the one she respects the most and whose praise she yearns for.
We all remember where we were (I do) when we first read how Maomao explodes.
Once more there's the common thread of Jinshi, in Maomao's eyes, always letting other people do the work for him. She tells him that he is exhausting, and that the least he could do is state clearly, unequivocally, what it is that he feels and what he wants.
Unfortunately for Maomao, Jinshi takes her up on it. (So far he has not clearly and explicitly said it. He has called it his proposal and called her a candidate. For what? For what, Master Jinshi?)
I like that Jinshi says "for you". He thinks its for her but it's really for him too. Perhaps moreso for himself at the moment, because Maomao thinks she should not be his wife. HE wants those obstacles gone, for her and for himself, for both of them to be together. Jinshi mayhaps thinks that if he can be together with Maomao after exiting the royal family, everything else will fall into place. Jinshi is quite naive. Jinshi puts himself to bed here instead of making Maomao comfort him to sleep (Like asking her to sing for him in LN5.)
Maomao thinks of Empress Gyokuyou whose enemy she does not want to be and the secret of his birth. What Jinshi wants is only going to become more difficult to achieve. There's too many unknown variables. She shakes her head as if to shake it off. It can't happen. There's no point. Jinshi will never be able to remove those obstacles.
As we know. Jinshi has a plan. I wonder if this is where he came up with it.
Suiren on the other hand wants for the young people to have a cute romantic moment together and to hopefully finally get to it. Maomao glares at Suiren, the lady she has said to fear so many other times. This is no matter to thumbs up about.
WHY IS SHE ALWAYS LOOKING
LN7 SPOILERS
Maomao tells herself in LN6 that she wants her relationship with Jinshi to remain professional like she isn’t the one who makes nearly all the work related meetings with Jinshi in LN5 and LN7 personal.
SPOILER the apothecary diaries LN7
Jinshi be like
I was hating the Shrine Maiden's arc since the beginning, since the White Lady thing, but man, that is heartbreaking. It went from 1 to 100 way too fast, I'm shocked with the shrine maiden's story. This author has a talent to tell sad-heartbreaking-overwhelming stories that I can't handle. I think after LN7 I need to take a break, go back to Naturo Shippuden, read some happy ending book, I don't know. I'm gonna start crying again, and I can't handle crying with every arc!
NO ONE TOLD ME MAOMAO WOULD SAY HER PIECE
