Recently stumbled across the small but dedicated Tumblr fan community dedicated to "boomer shooter protags", and it's mostly pretty much what you'd expect: lots of art of Postal Dude kissing Duke Nukem, Gordon Freeman with a ponytail, and "doomguy is trans" headcanons. And I ain't judging them for this (except I think there needs to be more content of Caleb from Blood), but I find it very funny how every single post and bit of artwork has to quietly skirt around Shadow Warrior. I've seen a couple that use reboot Lo Wang, but even that's uncommon; I swear I've seen more of Bombshell or the guy from Hatred (which I'd argue isn't even really a boomer shooter). For the most part, they just seem to be content to admit that, while you can make Duke Nukem into a loveable bisexual himbo, there is nothing you can do to salvage 1997 Lo Wang.

And you know what? Good on them. Turns out fandom excluding nonwhite characters is a good thing when said nonwhite character is this fucking dude.
