One of the younger teenagers in the neighborhood announced out her window today that she thought my outfit was cute. I thanked her.
I truly do appreciate the compliment. It's just making me feel a little conflicted. Technically, I am Old (closer to fifty than forty). My brain immediately started wondering if I was "trying too hard" and all sorts of other very judgemental things, as this was the second teenager in the last week or so who liked the overalls, am I doing Old wrong?
Literally sat here for the better part of an hour rolling this over in my head. I am allowed to wear the overalls and cartoon corgi socks I bought out of Target. I do not have to abide by the local idea of "how women over a certain age should dress", no matter how much I get glared at by the local moms and grandmas (they could wear the same items I do, they just don't). I am an adult who can wear what I like. This is the crab bucket I have constantly fought against for decades.
I will likely have to recite that last bit for the foreseeable future.
