From  5 June to 7 June 2015, I took part to a Close-reading Kenneth Goldsmith’s Uncreative Writing workshop in the rooftop location of Aleppo in Brussels. This session was part of the residency of artists Billy Bultheel & Enad Marouf and co-organized by Constant aiming at creating a space for presentation, exchange, discussion on new ways of reading & writing.

And it did... I particularly appreciated to spend 3 days in a room with a local bunch of people who all relate to text in their practices with distinctive backgrounds & approaches (philosophy, computer sience, graphic design, publishing, free culture, performance, digital writing, visual arts, etc).

Together with Michael Murtaugh, we shared experiences in setting up local servers / offline networks, then the conversation moved to responsabilities of Internet Providers, actually looking at ourselves as Internet Providers and what it implies (Michael was the one “in charge” of the network set-up during the session)

I hate setting these up. Its an absolute mess of multitasking Google Search queries to uninstalling, installing, and re-installing old or broken servers.

Why am I doing this all again? My MySQL won't work! I was also notified by EasyPHP (yes I use EasyPHP, cause its easy to setup) that version 13 was out. Yay?

After installing I had error messages about the port I was using. Now, I decided to switch from EasyPHP and go where all the big boys are: WAMP. "Dear user, the port we want to use won't work and to change the port you need to go the admin page but the port has to work for you to go to the admin page. You are SOL."

After dropping an f-bomb I tinkered around and discovered that I had Bitnami's Ruby Stack installed. I'd completely forgotten about it. Hmmm.... It has PHP, Apache, MySQL, AND Ruby. This was a delightful find.

Then I stayed seated and tried to get this Ruby Stack to work, but it wasn't loading up the sample app. F-U Bitnami. THEN I went and downloaded the latest version of the Stack (which was 1.9.3-10 and mine was 1.9.3-4) and installed it.

Now I'm just waiting for the Setup to finish so that I can be met with the usual barrage of errors.

BTW, does anyone know if there's a local server for Tumblr theme development?
