The other day I reblogged a post featuring the Fairbanks House in Dedham, MA. It's the oldest wooden frame building in the United States. I drive through its neighborhood now and then and today I snapped some photos. Our recent snow storms have hidden parts of it, but you get the idea. I'll update it in the spring.

Road trip to Ikuno Ginzan

Today me my husband made a small day trip to go check out the mines at Ikuno Ginzan!

Located in central Hyogo, it’s a bit off the beaten path but still a popular spot - especially in the summer since the caves are quite cool and a great way to beat the heat.

Luckily the crowds weren’t too bad today, and it was fairly easy to keep social distance most of the time.

The caves themselves were very interesting! They showed the history of how they mined for gold, silver, and other minerals, from all the way back to the Edo period.

The mannequins are also apparently quite popular and have their own ‘idol group’ called the “Ginzan Boyz” (no joke).
