“So, are you free this weekend?”
The earth felt like it froze for a solid minute when the question was asked, Prax staring at the lively mutant hybrid as he held the five dollar bill in his hand, mid air, about to hand it to the other.
“This weekend- are you free? There's a festival happening and..” the sound faded quickly from Prax’s ears as he struggled to process what was happening. Was he being asked out? Right now? Just as it had bought some stupid ocean themed snack that he didn’t even want? Why was he buying these? Why had its body walked to the snack shop absentmindedly knowing Sonny was going to be here?
Realizing he was staring like an idiot, and needing to reply, he spoke. “Oh uh- no I’m not. Actually.” Prax managed to stammer out as he allowed his hearing to set back in. Sonny seemed to take that rejection in stride, nodding with a toothy grin. “Okay what about next week?”
Maybe Sonny was just oblivious to Prax’s attempts to get away from the idea of meeting Sonny somewhere, or maybe he sensed Prax’s desire to actually go. Either way, Prax was stuck in disbelief as he furrowed his brows. “Look I don’t do dates or anything.”
Sonny seemed taken aback, quick to put his hands up as a small defense. “Woah woah! I didn’t say a date!” the turtle-shark chuckled “I just think you’re cool! I wanna hang out, be buds or somethin’.” The clarification was a surprise- a welcome one, but a surprise nonetheless. Even with the slight embarrassment for assuming so fast.
“Oh..” Prax muttered, Sonny’s hand taking the, still in mid air, bill from Prax’s and handed over the snack it purchased. The turtle took it in its hand, glancing down at the stupid food mascot on the packaging.
