couldn't find an october drawing challenge that tickled my fancy this year so i made one of my own last minute! feel free to use it if u want :3 none of you are allowed to say anything if i give up halfway through. im just a creature.

i was this 🤏close to doing kloktober (metalocalypse fanart challenge), but i wanted to make some traditional stuff (in addition to digital) that i can fill my sketchbook with and maybe show at some local galleries sometime, so i decided fanart wasn't the right way to go. i still have some mtl fanart to finish up though so i'll upload it whenever it's done!! ok bye

lochtober day 3: hadal!

listen, i know this isn't my best work, nor is it horror, but i've been a little busy and just wanted to turn my brain off this time and draw a cute magnapinna >~< they're the deepest-living cephalopods known to science! i considered drawing a snailfish, but i just love magnapinna so much.

i'm coming back into some free time now so hopefully i can make some cool stuff for the upcoming drawings!! i think this one is sort of a twist; most people find magnapinna (aka bigfin squid aka long arm squid aka elbow squid) scary, but i find them both cute and ethereal. they are such amazing and mysterious critters, i really love them!!

i'd like to come back to magnapinna in future artworks. i find them cute up close, but from a distance they are so haunting and beautiful. they remind me of angels when they're swimming! the aforementioned Big Fins (TM) on the mantle really resemble wings when they flap in the water, and the long filaments (stringy dillies attached to their arms and tentacles) flowing behind them remind me of long robes. i would really like to translate that into a humanoid character design.

you may be familiar with magnapinna from that creepy footage of it floating in the dark from ~2007(iirc) that went viral a couple years back, but if you're not super familiar with the animal, i would defo recommend reading up on it or watching some videos!! (magnapinna archive is great.) not much is known about these squids, but what we do know makes them that much more intriguing. really cool creatures :D magnapinna my beloved <3
