The robot Gort was played by Lock Martin who was reported to be seven feet and seven inches tall. The costume was made from foamed neoprene. The suit was suppose to be seamless. To accomplish that on film, two versions were made - one with closures on the back, the other with closures on the front.
Remembering The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Snow Creature star Lock Martin on the anniversary of his birth.
