my personal hcs for what material obelisks from various flights turn into when they stoneshape

lightning: sandstone, or maybe a large fulgurite. the more high-society ones turn into statues carved of copper or electrum that can absorb and manage electricity as a way to passively collect energy

earth: basalt yeah. other generic common rocks too

light: polished marble, looks like a genuine statue

ice: d. do i have to say it.

plague: red clay or bone

nature: these ones are unique in that they don’t take the form or a stone or mineral, but usually appear as large overgrown woodcarvings. otherwise, mossy rocks.

wind: jade, malachite, and other precious stones, usually those associated with protection

water: coral, probably basalt as well, oH AND ALSO SALT STATUES BECAUSE THE SEA OF A THOUSAND CURRENTS IS SALTWATER IN MY HEART

arcane: pink tourmaline ! specifically the radioactive magical kind prominent in arcane territory. some also take the form of tektites or meteorite chunks

fire: metals, most commonly black iron

shadow: hmm…. this one’s difficult to pin down. maybe shale? not really sure, chime in if you wanna

-The first things you see are golden sparks against the scarlet horizon. The sun peeking through the clouds, you suppose. But they get closer. And begin to take shape.

-it’s a dragon. A wildclaw with two glowing golden eyes and sparks of light around him. He radiates an energy, but you can’t pinpoint what kind.

-He speaks... oddly. He throws inflections in at odd parts of words and uses larger words than any dragon you’ve ever met. His speech is almost entirely formal. Foreignly so, almost.

-Do not be afraid, he whispers. You have nothing to fear. Not now, at least. The time for fear will come.

-He almost hurts to look at. Not due to the light, no. He’s almost blurry, an ever-shifting form draped in expensive cloth and freckled with stardust. He’s not unpleasant to look at, but staring at him hurts your eyes. You decide to avoid it.

-He offers you a place in his family, and you accept. You are safe. You don’t remember what he asks for in exchange. All you know is that you are safe. It doesn’t matter that you can’t feel anything anymore, it just matters that you are safe.

-He hasn’t told you his name. You ask and he chuckles wearily, giving you a monologue about how he has more titles than there are stars in the sky, more forms than there are ways to die. Eventually he gives you one. Hollister. The word sticks in your mind like a memory you hate. Hollister. Hollister. Hollister? Is that it? You aren’t sure. It was so long ago, and he is ever-changing. Perhaps he’ll tell you a new one when you ask today.

-Brotherhood means nothing to him. He won’t tell you why. You hear a word whispered in your head when you bring it up around him. Riddik. What does it mean? You shrug it off. Something tells you it’s not important.

Lockjaw Gothic

Yo these gothic bits goin around are p neat so I figured I’d do one

-When you come in to get patched up, the medic laughs at you. Her cackle is a rapid flurry of alternating pitches that perfectly mimics a rotary gun. You don’t go back to her next time you’re injured.

-If you hear the clanking footsteps, it’s too late. The assassin has come for you. He knows every move you could possibly make and knows that you will die.

-Beware the bar on the edge of the woods. The bartender isn’t right. His eyes are... wrong. And his scales flake off constantly. He’s sick. But what is he sick with?

-Don’t go to sleep unless you are absolutely sure you can’t hear the wheezing breaths of whatever comes to the door at night. It doesn’t like you, and if it gets that door open you’re done for if you’re asleep.

-The wildclaw who wanders the coast and drinks up all the bourbon at the diner has plenty of stories. They know something they shouldn’t. They know things no one should. It’s a shame they try to drink them all away.

-The Apocalypse Flight is not a cult. The Apocalypse God is not a threat. It’s the other one you have to worry about.

-Lockjaw is home to mutants, demons, and undead. But nothing is as horrific as what lurks in the abandoned dens at the edge of the territory.

-Hawks—or are they vultures?—circle the woods. The few that look for places to land never return.

-The darkness is so overpowering in some places that Lightweaver herself couldn’t brighten them. Most do their best to avoid those spots. But Teret seems to like them.

Harlan and MacKinnon grew up together! They share a passion for preserving the histories of the various beings that call Sornieth home. They go almost everywhere together, so you find one of them, chances are the other is not far away.

34. Who hoards what? Do the dragons each have a personal hoard, or is there one big storage area?

Some resources like food and treasure are generally communal, and are handed out at the discretion of the clan’s governing council. But most other things are generally part of personal hoards!

Clan Lockjaw: Geography and Gathering

-The Fortress itself is located in the northeastern area of the Scarred wasteland, situated between the Dragonhome and Tangled Wood borders. Dust storms are frequent, and most structures that aren’t within the walls have canvas awnings that drop down to keep the doorway from accumulating dust.

-The Leather Wood, a forest of fleshy trees and alien-looking carnivorous plants, including the parasitic roses that claimed the life of clan Lockjaw’s nature representative Brankar, is located on the Tangled Wood edge of the territory. It is a plentiful foraging ground, but one must watch their surroundings. Often, the forest will be hunting you.

-Most of the clan’s insect and meat supply simply comes from finding dead things. As disgusting as it seems, corpses are plentiful supplies of insects, and sometimes the carcasses are in good enough condition to eat. Some of the more civil dragons in the clan are picky about this, but most have learned not to care. Some are even willing to eat dragon carcass, though this is frowned upon if it’s not absolutely critical to survival. Carcasses that are deemed inedible are used to grow mushrooms to feed the clan’s plant-eaters.

-Fishing is done within swamps and salt marshes, or along the coastline of the Sea of a Thousand Currents.

-The clan’s mining operations take place in two areas; along the borders of Dragonhome and the Starfall Isles. Dredge is wary of the magical radiation of the latter area, but the magical energy of the crystal is useful to enchanters both within the clan and in other places.

-There are salt flats near the coast, likely from before the Sea was pushed back by the pestilent tendrils of the Wandering Contagion. The clan harvests the salt primarily to cure any fresh meat they might acquire, but also to sell to other clans.

-A large portion of the clan’s income comes from scavenging due to Matriarch Cytagal’s expertise in the area. There are plenty of destroyed clan sites and caravan wrecks to sift through, especially on the Wasteland-Dragonhome border.
