I'm genuinely really proud of my Irish-American Ollie HC for multiple reasons. Mainly, on the one hand he can sometimes call Catnap "a stĂłirĂn" instead of "little one" - literally translates to "my little treasure", idiomatically used for "little dear". Catnap doesn't know what it means, he can get away with it. There's also "a leanbhĂn" for "my little child", but from what I've researched/heard from friends, the former seems to carry more meaning and is therefore reserved for little brother.
On the other hand, this: (apologies for tumblr eating the quality, original is here)
My personal favourite translates to "may the cat eat you and the devil eat the cat". You bet he's going to start cursing people out in Gaeilge from this point onwards.
thereâs something to be said about the jarring inaccessibility of information regarding the permanence in the data bank, especially considering its fervent upkeep by a scion of long themselves.
i donât think many people realize just how wide the disparity is, either:
granted, i made this sometime right after 3.6, so i mightâve glossed over some of the more more recent developments for other aeons. either way, though, the fact remains that we have nothing (and thereâs a lot of reasons why this is Weird, but itâs a bit of a hefty read, so i apologize in advance).
My buffer posts are moving again!
We will get back to superheroes in about 6 posts after this one :3333
But for now, have some old slumber lily lore.
making an oath to myself that I don't get to make anymore Loreposts after this one until I finish the next update but I wrote this up on the 'scord and I liked it so I'm sharing:
Faction 1: Global Logistics Network Strauss-Howe cycle (I wasnât deliberately going for a Strauss-Howe thing but I realized it coincidentally maps really well to the factions): Prophet. Austere lawgivers, obsessed with organization and self-discipline. Underpinnings: âPeople take modernity for granted. They donât realize how much effort it takes to keep the lights on, the taps flowing, and the trucks moving - and the second it stops, people start dying.â Where they get weird with it: âWhich is why our upper echelons must studiously dehumanize ourselves and embrace a Dark Corporate Wellness culture to transcend petty human obsessions like checks notes 'community' and 'happiness.' Itâs just rational.â Supporters say: âWe are the adults in the room. Weâre the people who kept global trade from collapsing entirely after the USAâs arrogant incompetence. We understand the goddamn assignment.â Detractors say: âImagine if Amazon and Huawei had a baby and raised it in a military boarding school. And then taught it about Calvinism.â
Faction 2: Usonian Union Strauss-Howe cycle: Hero. Civic-minded, collaborative, and optimistic. Underpinnings: âWe have to thread a very delicate needle, because we kinda have to position ourselves as the successors to the USA but we also donât really want to remind everyone that weâre the successors to the empire that got so drunk with power that they started declaring wars just for funsies.â Where they get weird with it: âSo to thread that needle weâve created a psychosexual cult of personality around an anime girl vtuber.â Supporters say: âWe brought back peace and stability. No, seriously, did you guys already forget that ten years ago half of the continent was engulfed in border disputes and anarchy and now that's not happening anymore? Like I think we deserve at least a little credit for that." Detractors say: âTheyâre the simps who think theyâre paragons of civic duty for buying body pillows and playing state-sponsored gacha games.â
Faction 3: The Manors and Protectorates Strauss-Howe cycle: Nomad. Independent, under-protected, anti-institutional. Underpinnings: âThere was no central government for thirty years, where do you think we came from?â Where they get weird with it: âEver heard of an âaltar and throne coalitionâ? Itâs where you get the peasants to support the clergy and nobility because theyâll guarantee stuff like holidays and local privileges which are threatened by centralizing technocrats. It's a great way of putting a veneer of humane populism over a bunch of reactionary causes like protecting bigotry and misogyny in the name of 'tradition.' Anyway, weâre that.â Supporters say: âWe are power as it actually exists on the ground. The Union and the GLN are so busy with their simulacra, their spreadsheets and VR and NomBox food cubes, that theyâre barely engaged with reality. Well, weâre reality.â Detractors say: âTheyâre the people who wish the apocalypse never ended because theyâre having too much fun living out their wasteland-warlord fantasies of taking potshots at passing cars and starting gangs with names like âCrispy Jimâs Gibletsâ or whatever.â
