The streamers were hung, the cake was ready, the presents were wrapped, everything was set. Now, all that Joel's missing from Lizzie's party is, well, Lizzie! She had messaged him that she was finishing up stocking her items in Trader Scar's then she'd be over. His house is much closer to Trader Scar's than Lizzie's is so it's a good thing they're celebrating there. There was a soft melodic knock at the door and he practically ran to answer it. "Hey babe." Joel stepped aside to let Lizzie in. "Oh, this is so pink!" She squealed. "D'you like it?" "I love it!" He took her hand in his own and led her to the cake. She dipped her finger in the frosting and licked it off with a smile. "It's so good! Did you make it yourself?" "I might've asked Pearl to help me with it." Joel took a lighter out and started to light the candles on her cake. "Make a wish babe." "Hm..." Lizzie leaned down to the candle and Joel held her hair back for her. "I wish for happiness like this forever." She whispered and blew out the candles. "Now, let's eat!" Joel laughed slightly at her excitement to eat the cake. He took the knife that was sat next to it and cut a slice out for both of them. Lizzie took the serving spatula to put them both on plates and walked them to the table. She sat in one of the seats with one plate in front of her and set the other in front of the seat across from her. Joel got two forks from the silverware drawer and cups out of the cupboard to get them both a glass of milk. He gave Lizzie her milk and fork and sat down across from her. "It's really good!" She smiled after she finished the first bite. "I'm glad you like it. I tried to invite Scar but he said he's on a material run." "Oh, yeah, he ran out of spider eye today." "Why doesn't he hire mercenaries?" "Doesn't want to pay them." Lizzie finished her slice of cake. "Of course he doesn't." Joel chuckled. "You know, I feel like every time I see you, you look slightly different." "Oh- what do you mean?" She laughed nervously. "Well, last time we met up, your eyes seemed like a lighter shade." He finished his slice and gathered their dishes to clean. "Must've been a trick of the light." Lizzie followed him to the sink. "Let me help you." "No, it's alright, it's your birthday. I've got it. Let's open presents first, though." Joel set the dishes in the sink and walked back towards the counter the cake was on with the presents. They finished the day opening presents, having more cake, and planning future date ideas. Joel may have enchanted the cake with elven magic because it wasn't that good when him and Pearl finished making it but Lizzie doesn't need to know. She just needed to have a good birthday.

I have a headcanon. E!Joel is a size-shifter. The reason he insists he's tall and keeps up his relatively tall (for his empire, his usual height is about midrange among the emperors) size around the others is that his "natural" size (the size that it takes him the least energy to be) is about 2 feet. Most terracotta people are about 2'6", and he's a bit insecure about his height. Only Lizzie and Jimmy know about this, but some of the others have their suspicions (he's just a little inconsistent with how tall he is around the others, within an inch at the most, but noticeable enough to catch the attention of the more perceptive emperors [*cough* Scott and Gem], and he got tired one time building with Pix around, and he started to shrink very gradually, so gradually Pix isn't quite sure if he imagined it).
