*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Missie Davis is a daring and sensible young schoolteacher in her Montana hometown, swept off her feet by a railroad surveyor named Grant and struggling to help her family as they undergo various trials.
Willie LaHaye arrives in town using the name “Nate,” clearly running from his past but unwilling to open up to anyone, even after he saves Missie’s father Clark from certain death.
Since Clark can’t plow his fields until his leg heals and Missie can’t do everything amid her teaching job, Willie agrees to stay and help on the farm until the harvest, growing closer to Missie in the meantime. Though Missie continues seeing Grant, she cannot deny the attraction she feels for the mysterious Willie, with whom she begins spending more time and falling in love. Missie soon comes to learn that Willie is a boy she grew up with many years ago, but the past still haunts him and keeps him from finding any joy, something that Missie and her family decide to help him with.
