Armed Coal Miners. The Battle of Blair Mountain was the largest labor uprising in United States history and one of the largest organized armed uprisings since the American Civil War. The conflict occurred in Logan County, West Virginia, as part of the Coal Wars, a series of early-20th-century labor disputes in Appalachia. Up to 100 people were killed, and many more arrested.

Krieger Theater, Gackle North Dakota by Arielle Seibold-Galston Via Flickr: What is a small town without a theater? Dad said he never went to this one. And it looks like it has been closed for awhile. Dad grew up on a farm, but counts the two surrounding tiny towns his "hometowns". This is one of them--Gackle North Dakota! We got out of the car and walked the entire main street and more and got to hear dad's stories about each place! It was so wonderful. The quiet little town really came alive for me.
