lograham is really just: two highly competent people from very different backgrounds that come to understand what the other needs so deeply, accepting each other as is, being drawn toward one another and wordlessly taking the weight off of each other’s shoulders over and over again and it is that same closeness that makes them envious of different aspects of each other’s lives.
an older brother who has spent his entire life under the weight of responsibility, driven by a deep fear of failure and forced to fight for everything he has ever earned vs a charismatic only child who grew up as a prodigy under a perfectionist father who shaped his entire life around expectations he never chose.
and their contrasting personalities do clash but also complement each other; because garrett keeps john motivated, constantly pushing him to improve and keeping him on his feet, and while john admires garrett’s natural skill, he also feels unavoidable envy toward it and that leaves him conflicted about how he should feel. still, because garrett is his best friend, the part of him that wants what is best for him always wins in the end.
meanwhile john gives garrett a sense of understanding and calm that no one else provides, as well as a rare purpose in a sport that otherwise felt like obligation rather than choice. that’s why garrett feels this unwavering loyalty toward him but he also can’t shake away this quiet resentment for having the kind of close family bond he himself lacks. he never lets these thoughts surface because logan has always been there for him and garrett wouldn’t betray that trust for the world.
and despite the mutual envy of each other’s circumstances, there is an undeniable pull between them, as if they are drawn together by something inevitable, each recognizing in the other both what they lack and what they need. and because of this mutual, quiet understanding between the two they become the most sacred relationship they have in their lives (something they’d never admit out loud but it’s painfully obvious for the rest of their friends), but, also the ones that could hurt one another the most.
HOCKEY AS A METAPHOR FOR LOVE PEOPLE.
i think numbers 44 and 22 should kiss
call me crazy, but garrett whispering to himself about what logan should do to win the game while logan plays as if he's following garrett’s advice without even realizing it, because they know each other so well is something I'll never get over. and isn't it symbolic that logan scoring was the most important point? saving it until the very end, with garrett getting up from his seat to celebrate while smiling proudly at his best friend. this scene not only proves that his love for hockey stems from his teammates (especially the guy on his right) because they’re the ones that make the game feel special, to the point where he’s so locked in the game that it doesn’t matter if he left the ice because his unconditional trust and support to them is always there.
but it also serves to show garrett that there's someone else who can carry the responsibility and burden of leadership as well. someone he can count on and rely on completely. and that takes weight off his shoulders, it gives him the space to rest because there’s someone that always has his back, no matter what. in conclusion; the mutual, quiet understanding between them has me in a chokehold!!!!
welcome to my blog !
i’m Eli (she/her) older brother enjoyer and dysfunctional family enthusiast. also a fanfic writer (alleged) who loves doomed narratives, with a dose of hurt/comfort sprinkled on top! i’m here to ramble endlessly about my current hyperfixation: off campus
-> i mainly post about lograham🏒🌟 (and yes, i just made the ship name up), they’re my version of challengers, your honor
-> this is a john logan lovezone (severe case of tunnel vision when it comes to him)
-> i enjoy character analyses and finding symbolism in every little thing!
additional info;
i talk a lot. buckle up for many, many rambles about my favs
i’m only here to have fun, i don’t want to get myself in meaningless shipping wars so please don’t try to start anything, you will get ignored
do not interact: basic dni criteria, improper fandom etiquette, hateful energy, under 16
asks are always welcome! as long as it’s nothing too weird or personal
find my published works on ao3!
didn’t realise the first fan fiction i’d ever write would be about a ship with 0 other shippers, this is truly my most self indulgent work so far
saw a hannah x john x garrett edit with the challengers audio and my day couldn’t have gone better honestly
i know off campus came out just a few weeks ago and also just kinda isn’t that kind of show (i’m here to change that, trust) but if my beloved series, Never Have I Ever, can have a fandom that critically analyses the characters’ dynamics and personalities then so can we!!!
