So… I was originally planning to post this yesterday (October 21), but I got sidetracked, so… shut up.

One of the first things Clark had ever learned about Lois Lane was that, when it comes to a story, she has surprisingly little regard for her own safety. She's the queen of getting herself into ridiculous scrapes. Granted, she always gets herself back out of them — but the constant scares aren't good for Clark's health.

Yet every time she asks for his help, he winds up saying yes. Maybe it's to keep an eye out for her. Maybe it's just because he enjoys the company. (Okay, it's mostly that last one.)

Which is why he ignores his guy when her latest investigation is getting dangerously close to Intergang, and their rumored operations in the bay. No one has any business messing with a group like that... but it's Lois Lane and Clark Kent. What could happen?

He could die. That's what could happen.

Not literally, of course. Intergang thankfully hasn't started arming themselves with kryptonite. But as the police rush onto the scene at the docks, and the startled criminal aims his gun directly at Lois, Clark doesn't even think. The instant the weapon fires, he maneuvers in front of her — and takes the bullet right in the gut.

The world moves in slow-motion. There are a dozen police officers shoving the remaining gang members to the ground, a dozen eyes watching him as he processes that he should probably be dead. If he doesn't act now, the game is up. His secret's out. Everyone he's ever loved will be in danger.

Lois is safe now. That's all that matters.

So he does the only thing he can think of. He staggers back with the bullet's impact, right to the edge of the dock... and he lets himself fall. The murky waters claim him and he sinks like a stone.

The last thing he sees is the look on Lois' face.

if there's one thing that's forever true about lois lane? the lady knows how to deliver a story. her signature flare, her burning passion, isn't confined to the inky pages of a newspaper, either!!! the way she's retelling this whole fiasco with her editor, perry, has eve gasping and ohing in all the right places. by the time the curse words are flying, eve's eyes are wide and her engines are flaring, too.

how dare these guys think they can just walk all over her?? when lois could out-wit, out-write, and all around out-smart them in her sleep!

eve is huffing, too, at this point. she shakes her head, perfect blonde hair staying in place, when she gets up and walks towards lois. ❛ i know what you could do, ❜ eve begins, a conspiratorial glint in her green eyes. she is so obviously excited by the prospect of what she's about to unleash on lois.

schemes go with teschmacher like journalism goes with lane. (kind of).

she smiles wide, her pearly teeth on display like she's getting paid to sponsor colgate toothpaste or something even better. her hands wrap around lois's arms, and she's giddy about her plan before she even speaks it to life. ❛ instead of trying to take your job back from clark, why don't you just take perry's job from him? ❜

a perfect plan, if eve says so herself. if you can't kill the snake, why not just become it? (okay the killing part is an exaggeration. obvious!)

✨ : a blog whose energy makes the RPC brighter

@loisl4ne / leidi is one of the sweetest people i have met in my entire life (and also arguably one of the main reasons this particular lanaissance has lasted so long). she is always so thoughtful and so encouraging of everything i do, and she's always sending me passages from the comics history books she's reading so i never miss anything too wild. she's just one of those people who makes me so glad to be here, and i know tons of people feel the same way because 1. they've told me and 2. if there's any kind of positivity meme going around, there is a 90% chance leidi is already all over it and she's complimenting as many people as she possibly can.

did i mention she is actually lois lane? because that also helps. like, they have eerily similar energy, the enthusiasm and heart and the crazy unique voice. literally and figuratively, actually: one time leidi sent me a voice memo to tell me a story, and it killed me because the whole time i was like "okay, lois" (she is precious, also). she always checks in on me even when i post and say i don't want to talk about [the drama of the day] and i really appreciate that, even though i am awkward and weird and don't know how to talk about things. she's just always trying to take care of people, and she is very good at it, and i love her. i'm lucky as hell to know her. she's just a phenomenal human being. (she's also a great writer, but this isn't technically that kind of ask, so we'll save those brag receipts for next time.)
