@musclesandhammering AND IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED THIS (new post bc that one’s gonna get long lol)
So, of the two options; Genetic disorder or magic?— I have a third to give you! Diet!
See, Frost giants in the comics and the movies have blue blood. Blue blood is based in hemocyanin, where as our red blood is based in hemoglobin. Now, Loki shapeshifting as a baby might’ve had an effect on his blood and, with it, a bit of his physiology.
I’m not going to get too scientific, I’m no Jane Foster, but Loki might have grown up with a severe Copper Deficiency. Hemocyanin bonds with copper like our Hemoglobin bonds with iron. When the human body doesn’t have copper, as a base for the very humanoid Loki, it stunts growth along with many other things that would make Loki the Asgardian equivalent of a sick Victorian child. And I say he would have grown up with this deficiency because his diet wouldn’t fit his needs as a Jotun! It would fit Asgardian ones where Lokis copper needs would be copper poisoning for their red blood!
But, when he’s raised on a probable Jotun diet? Well, we see a Jotun raised Loki in What If?
He is shorter than others, but he fits the bill for the Frost Giant! He’s over 12 feet! The only change is Odin never raised him, Laufey did!
My assumption is that Farbauti had a deformity herself or had a similar dietary problem for other reasons, but Loki was just born tiny at the time with the ability to still grow big if he got fed right. Odin wouldn’t have, so the Loki we know best grew malnourished and with a deficiency.
Do you fully believe the theory about Loki being brainwashed (Straight up BRAINWASHED, not just influenced. Not referring to the torture Loki faced at the hands of Thanos, that’s canon/HEAVILY implied, and is not a theory.) by Thanos in The Avengers?
Do you take Loki being brainwashed by Thanos as canon?
Yes, without a doubt. There’s no way it isn’t canon.
Conflicted/Only certain aspects.
Absolutely not. It’s entirely misinformation and lacks substantial evidence.
Ok, so the TVA style always struck me as 90% vintage and 10% futuristic SciFi. BUT, Loki x Mobius outfits designs are an intentional metaphor for fitting together. Theory time! Strap in.
It starts with my obsession over the lapels on Mobius' jacket. See how they sit UNDER the rest of the fabric instead of on-top?
Here's a grainy close up.
Man that's cool seam work. Anyway.
Now Loki has a cool lapel too, but it's the opposite of Mobius', it's all puffed up. (See where I'm going?)
Here's a better pic.
It has DEFINITELY been padded out. Here's a typical wool peacoat for comparison:
So we have Mobius and his lapel being inset, and Loki and his lapel protruding in excess.
MEANING that the two jackets symbolically fit together. Like if they hugged chest to chest. The lapels are a metaphorical puzzle piece for how Loki and Mobius go together.
Obviously there are many ways to read into this, like how Loki fit into Mobius' life, or how Mobius contains Loki's behaviour, how Mobius is more introspective and Loki is more a man of action. (Pop your interpretation below!)
But ultimately, this costume design HAD to be intentional. It's such a cute little detail that really shows how much thought really goes into this show.
I'm not sure whose choice this was, probably Tom Hornsby the costume director? Anyway, whoever it was, I see you. I love your work. This is just my current rabbit hole after falling in love with Mobius' lapels. ✨
I was looking at an item I’m pondering adding to my collection and I realized that the Mind Stone is yellow - which I had forgotten because my brain associates it with blue. Because I didn’t remember the colors that went with the powers I looked them up.
Now, hear me out about this. Space is blue, Mind is yellow, Time is green.
Loki used and/or was under the mind stone. If you think about it, there seemed to be more gold (yellow) in his gear, especially the scepter and horns. Then there are a lot of ways space could fit for him such as traveling from Sakaar, evacuating Asgard, falling from the Bifrost, etc. But thinking of Sakaar specifically, that leather is definitely blue. Then they ended the show with him taking over the timelines.
His past, blue and yellow, combined to be where/who he is at the end of the show: Time and green. Like he’s finally come to who and what he’s supposed to be.
Throwing in even more: in Avengers he was doing Thanos’ bidding (I think? Or am I mixing MCU with fanon?) and he was lots of green and gold. Some of himself with someone else influencing. In Ragnarok he was in blue and a yellow cape. Out of his own space and it was alluded to that he and Grandmaster had arrangements. No green; Loki is not at all himself here.
Then at the end. Everything combines. Becomes green. Becomes truly, fully him. No other influence, no out of space and time. Just Loki, the God of Stories.
Okay, I wanna talk about this scene and what it might mean for Loki and Mobius in S2.
Sure, they stood here so Loki could point at the panel showing all the Kangs fighting, and the full mural is meant to be the story of how the Time Keepers created order out of chaos, but what if it also means something else.
Let's look at Mobius first, then Loki.
Mobius POV
Mobius is standing with his back to a panel representing chaos and looking at one that represents order, showing the Time Keepers appearing as gods to shocked people below. Seems very religious and mythological, right?
Mobius had always believed in order and that what the TVA were doing, ripping people from their lives, was necessary.
He also has previously likened Loki's origins, which is literal mythology in mcu form, as similar to his own experiences in the TVA.
"If you think too hard about where any of us came from, who we truly are, it sounds kinda ridiculous."
Now, he knows the Time Keepers are fake, that he wasn't created by them. By this point in the episode, he's already acknowledged to B-15 that their gods are dead.
What he isn't aware of is who exactly was behind the curtain or that all-out war is coming. That's something Loki reveals to Mobius, showing him the truth in his blindspot (the panel behind him).
This revelation for Mobius feels pretty similar to how the truth was revealed to Loki in S1E1.
Mobius is also looking at a panicked Loki. He's seen him teary-eyed before, but not this distressed.
What Mobius sees before him is his fear, that Loki won't be able to escape the bonds of the sacred timeline, that he's doomed to die, and that pains him.
And one last thing. Loki is a god of mischief, and I can't help thinking about the comparison of a real god Mobius can see in front of him and the fake Time Keepers in the panel behind Loki.
Loki POV
Meanwhile, Loki is looking at chaos that scares him. The panel has several Kangs all fighting for supremacy in a pose that was similar to that shown by Kang in S1E6.
Loki is the god of mischief, who thrives on chaos, and yet the prospect of all these Kangs frightens him.
War is the only thing preoccuping his mind. It's the only thing he can see.
But behind him are the Time Keepers, and we know they are fake, but what if the truth Loki has to face is that while he no longer wants a throne, he might need to take it to save the people he cares for, his found family.
Loki is looking at Mobius, who's concerned about him and a little rattled, but ultimately keeping his calm. I think this calm is likely to fracture the more season 2 progresses.
What Loki sees before him is his fear, that Mobius will be caught up in the war and lost to him. It's a reminder of what's at stake if he doesn't restore order. And he's already experienced a Mobius who didn't know him, and that was heartbreaking.
What this scene also does is continue both Loki and Mobius being mirrors for each other, revealing truth and reflecting one another.
They are similar to each other in many ways. We saw glimpses of Mobius embracing chaos in S1, which I always love to see. And I can't wait to see more of these soulmates. They are important to one another.
And I haven't even spoken about all the touching, that Mobius doesn't want to lose Loki and Loki is just so desperate to get to Mobius, but I think other people have covered that.
Thanks to @lgwilt and @insert-witty-user-name-here for discussing this theory with me. I added in your glorious insights because what you said really resonated with me.
And just a wee note to everyone that this is just me theorising, and usually my theories do not happen, but I couldn't help pondering if this mural had an even deeper meaning. I just like theorising for fun.
There's bikes and a basketball hoop.... Mobius has kids on the sacred timeline... MOBIUS HAS KIDS!!!!!!
(Not sure about the sheets tied into a rope out the window, rebellious teen sneaking out?!)
And Loki has to ask him to leave his family behind to save the TVA...
Mobius's biggest fear about having a good life on the timeline came true. Loki is the only one who knows this and he has to take Mobius away knowing this will make his fear a reality...
