Harry/Susan heartbreak for Loki-Boo
Harry idly flicked through the mail that Mouse had brought in. Yet another Best Buy catalog, an invitation to some Sidhe party (yeah right), a thank-you postcard from a paranetter... and a single envelope with only his name printed on it. He flicked open the envelope and pulled out the letter, opening it up, and fell heavily back to the couch as he saw who it was from.
Harry,
I left this with a Fellowship operative with strict instructions, so if you're reading this, it means something must have gone bad at Chichen Itza. We had a lot of things left to talk about, and I'm sorry we aren't going to get a chance to work through them, but I'll try to at least hit some of the highlights.
I'm sorry about what happened to us, Harry. I wish I could have always been there for you the way you were always there for me. You were so important to me, and I didn't want you to get hurt. It's funny, you used to say the same thing to me before the whole vampire thing, and I never understood, but I wanted you to know that I get what you were saying now.
I'm sorry that I made things even worse by popping in and out of your life like I have. I know that can't have been easy for you, because it wasn't easy for me either. Part of it was the job, but I won't lie and say I didn't have selfish reasons for wanting to see you. When I was with you, Harry, I felt almost... almost human again. And I want to thank you for those times.
But most of all, Harry, I want to say that I'm sorry about Maggie. I'm sorry for not keeping her safe, I'm sorry for not giving her the life she deserves, but most of all, I'm sorry for not telling you. I let my selfishness and guilt force me into making a bad decision, and I hope that one day you'll be able to forgive me for that. I hope that as time passes, you'll remember me by the good times that we shared together and not by the bad ones. I love you, Harry, and I always have.
-Susan
Harry read the letter again. Then again. Then one more time. Finally, he leaned back, staring at the fire as Mouse nuzzled up against him. "I love you too, Susan," he whispered.
