what are your favorite fantasy or like adventure / historical books?

I’m not big on traditional/high fantasy really. The closest thing to more traditional fantasy I like is The Queen’s Thief series but I kinda don’t know if you can really call that one FANTASY it’s very very light on fantastical elements. I like anything from the Grishaverse (Leigh Bardugo), Maggie Stiefvater stuff, The Diviners by Libba Bray. Obvs Harry Potter. Obvs anything Rick Riordan has written. And I’m a fan of Neil Gaiman for sure. 

OOh one that’s a good cross between historical and fantasy would be the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden. Feudal Russia + pagan spirits etc. Total fave.

I am ALSO, otherwise, not a historical fiction fan. If it’s like earlier than 1900 I am exhausted by the mere concept of it usually. Staring at my shelves, the only historical stuff I have are Daisy Jones and the Six/Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid and The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey (SUPER love this one tho, it’s about homesteading in Alaska and is also vaguely fantastical). Oh and for a YA twist, I like The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue/The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee. 

A lot of these would hit the adventure category too. But I’ll throw in The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern and the Warcross duology by Marie Lu.

it's not technically a adult /romance/ but it' about love with thriller elements and also lgbt content as well. the book is called The one by john marrs ( it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time) also the seven husbands of evelyn hugo very gay and very good

I’ve read 7 Husbands! It’s a great one. Not the vibe I’m looking for to be comparable to adult contemp romances though. I’m talking meet cutes and shit lmao.

I never saw this??? Hi, this was from March 21st and the world is still just as miserable as then so LOLOL. I’m truthfully a sad song bitch for the most part so like a couple weeks ago I put on a bunch of Iron and Wine and cried a lot but was really happy about it? I guess that’s also the nostalgia piece. 

Ummm I have a “Positivity Bangers” playlist that only has four songs that I should definitely enhance but let’s seeee here.

ok so im back and obviously rereading sowing season bc that is part of the yearly tradition and i just had a thought and wondered if you ever thought about whether, post derek departure, stiles and scott (and lydia) ever had a deja vu/parallel moment to match the one at scott's 18th birthday where stiles is the one shitfaced drunk on the bathroom floor and scott is the one holding him while he's sobbing and asking "why doesn't he want me?" cuz i just had that thought and it gutted me so. yeah.

sorry, im really not trying to like, drag you back into an old fandom, i just, fuck, i just super adore everything about this little universe and every single time i sink back into it it makes me grin and squee and giggle and *feel* and i just. really love this story. so much. anyway lol. bless you as always for existing and writing and gifting it to us

I know it’s been years since you wrote play crack the sky & that you’ve moved on to new fandoms. But I just did my annual re-read, despite having also moved into a new fandom, & I'm just. Stunned. As always. By how much I love this story. I spent the last week screenshotting my fav lines for my friends & gushing & reading outside of my normal train-only pattern. I just adore this story so much & can never thank you enough for gifting us with it. You're such a phenomenal writer, seriously 💜💜💜

It’d been a suuuuper long time since I’d read it (because I had no reason to really?) and then I read Daisy Jones and The Six (Taylor Jenkins Reid, highly recommend) and was like “aw I miss my band AU.” This led me to uh reaching for it when I couldn’t fall back asleep on Friday night and then like... I read it all the way through. And y’all, I cried?? at parts I’d never like felt that emotional about before??? Absolutely wild situation to be in.

That’s all to say I have a refreshed sense of pride in it and affection for it so the timing of this ask is so sweet and lovely! I’m truly so happy it’s re-readable and standing some sort of test of time and fandom. Thank you thank you thank you
