So my tube journey was made all the more interesting this morning because it was filled with around 7-8 American tourists, probably from New York and im guessing around the ages of 19-21. I don't know if you've ever been on a London tube before, or just generally met people from London...but we are known to be pretty hostile and the tube is no different. Everyone glares at one another or sips on their coffee whilst staring into their newspapers as though it is the most important piece of information they'll ever read ... (its the flipping London metro newspaper, I mean get real...what are you really going to learn?!)
So anyway, I do at times fall into that category, (except I NEVER read the metro, im a Financial Times/Economist kind of girl) im not really someone that just smiles at people for the sake of acknowledging their existence, I guess im a 'glarer' but don't realise it. These American kiddos, seriously I was like what a breath of fresh air, they were all laughing and joking...I sneezed and so one of them said 'bless you' ... Im not going to lie, I was pretty shocked. They didn't at all seem intimidated by the bunch of glares they were getting from my fellow Londoners clearly annoyed at the fact that they were actually 'speaking' and it wasn't SILENT.
It was a good experience, a nice way to start the day - being a Londoner although you may not want to fall into the depressive early morning tube journey glarer, it does happen - but thankfully the cute bunch of Americans definitely made my day and reminded me not to be that typical Londoner everyone dislikes!
Plus Americans just seem friendlier than us...Don't know if you agree?
