And so it ends, my last meal at @megsdrivein - One of my favorite mixed plates out there, choosing their beef stew and chicken katsu for it. I always loved their katsu, because I was told it was pan fried versus dropped into a fryer, and the result was a crunchier yet crisp coating. Pair that with their dark brown, savory beef stew and what you got is a beautiful memory to end my time there. I had never been there for decades, until some friends I met via Twitter decided to start frequenting there, and it soon became personal favorites for us, especially for J-Nobili. I’m gonna miss Meg’s a lot, because of the old time flavors of Hawaii’s plate lunch scene it represented. Finally got to enjoy @pualei80 homemade Luau Stew for breakfast, and it’s ono. In these times, I really appreciate it when someone goes out of their way to provide me with some goodies to eat. I also want to thank @jeanine_kalahiki for all the frozen burritos as well, one of my guilty pleasures. And to @michael_choy for Coffee Jelly Drink. And @kaimana_671 for some bomb ass beer. Was on my way to my Magic The Gathering night, when in the way I smelled some smoke and had to take a quick stop by the @alohamonsters wall to pick up some BBQ from the cart run by Furball. Got myself a BBQ Chicken plate with some BBQ beans and potato salad, but I showed my newbie-ness by ordering it with Hawaiian sweet rolls vs sliced bread. The Pesto Ramen from Gashoken at @shirokiyajvw - so artfully played that it looked like a landscape that a small band of adventurers, including a ranger, an acrobat, cavalier, barbarian, thief and magician would travel across to find a way out to the world they left behind. Plus the soup’s dope when you toss around that Parmesan. First #SausageOfTheDay post for 2019 involves some treats from Myukrang Hot Dog in Maikai Market. The first one is their Potato Dog, and it tasted like Pringles were wrapped around a churro wrapped around an Oscar Mayer wiener. The second one was a Squid Ink Mozzarella In A Dog. I started feeling like one of those #Mukbang chicks when I bit into the cheesy part. The bottom half was the hot dog, which they cut to look like squid legs. Overall I find the sweet and savoriness to be interesting, but for treats like these, usually the sausage is treated as an afterthought.
