♬ Lying here beside you. Close as we can be. I know what this leads to. I know what you need... ♬
There was a certain tranquility of the late afternoon. Rain tapped against the window in the small kitchen at Oz’s house as the sounds of a mid-eighties R&B tune played. Oz had gotten used to Piper needing to play music almost at all times in order to be content, to the point where silence now drove them both mad.
Thunder rolled in the distance and yet the song played on--reverberating off the bare walls of the room and made it sound like a much larger expanse than it actually was. Piper’s hands moved quickly but gracefully cutting up vegetables for a stir fry--a late lunch for the both of them. Colors of red, green, yellow, purple, and orange donned the kitchen counter in peppers, tomatoes, and onions waiting to be thrown into the skillet to sear.
♬ I'm ready to surrender, my love. Lay it all in your hands. Give you my forever. Everything I am... ♬
The blonde swayed back and forth in slow movements to the beat of the music, unrealizing, as she continued her preparations. It soothed her, made her comfortable and relaxed, and her body seemed to react naturally to the rhythm, falling in line with the beat as she moved her hips.
Unbeknownst, behind her, a pair of blue eyes watched, tongue brushing over lips, hues sweeping up and down her body, a smirk playing on his lips. Slow and careful movements sent him standing from his spot in the wooden chair until he was nestled up behind her. Piper smiled as his arms wrapped around her from behind, pulling her back against him. The swaying continued, never falling out of its perfect rhythm. No one spoke. Piper set the knife on the counter, letting both hands move to rest on his arms, holding onto him.
Lips against her neck caused a shiver down her body, prompting a small hum of approval. And still, the song played.
♬ 'Cause you are my, my, my, my lady soul. You warm my heart
When I grow cold. Oh you are my, my, my, my lady soul. You are my life. You make me whole... ♬
Every movement was slow and delicate--like if they moved too fast they were doomed to break. And soon, Piper faced him, taking hold of one of his hands and letting it rest against his chest. He leaned down to her, foreheads pressed together as their swaying continued, turning like dancers on a music box to the beat of the same song.
Everything in this moment was perfect. The rain, the song, holding each other close. Piper’s eyes closed, not able to hide the smile on her face even if she wanted to. Oz’s hand left hers in favor of brushing up her arm, over the delicate skin of her bare shoulder, teasing the strap of her tank top and finally settling against the side of her neck. The pad of his thumb caressed along the underside of her jaw, causing her heart to flutter. What man could be so rough and tough, so intimidating by others’ standards and get come home and touch her like this? Piper knew no other man that could.
♬ I feel it in your heartbeat. Hear it in your cries. This is where our hearts meet. I see it in your eyes... ♬
Piper’s eyes opened, locking on his as her smile grew. They didn’t need to say anything. The words of the song said it all. The way Oscar held onto her, danced with her on a rainy afternoon in the middle of the kitchen, meant more to her than any words ever would.
♬ I've waited for this moment, my love. It's a dream come alive. Heaven must have sent me. An angel of the night... ♬
The song built up to the second chorus and all Piper could focus on now was him. The way he looked at her, the way his hands felt on her skin, and how he could wrap her up in him with almost no effort. He leaned in closer now, and Piper took to her toes to help close the gap. Lips pressed against lips, tongues meeting in a steamy exchange. They stilled, Piper’s arms wrapped around his neck as he let both hands fall to either side of her hips, pulling her up to set her on the counter so she didn’t have to strain to reach him.
Legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him in and barring him from escaping. And still, the kiss never broke. She didn’t dare pull away and neither did he. They simply submitted themselves to one another, sacrificing air in exchange for feeling each other’s closeness. And still, the song played on.
♬ 'Cause you are my, my, my, my lady soul. You warm my heart
When I grow cold. Oh you are my, my, my, my lady soul. You are my life. You make me whole... ♬
