I'm sitting in a Zoom-call writing a lab-report and my mum comes in because she just has to show me this picture of a long-nosed monkey she found on Instagram and couldn't stop laughing about

A male Proboscis keeping a close watch over his harem in the local zoo. This was taken with a 2008 Fujifilm bridge camera that had been said to exhibit strong chromatic aberration. Personally, I had rarely encountered this. Perhaps, I hadn’t used it with high contrast scenes that much.

For The Long Haul

Though it was perhaps safer in the zoo, this proboscis monkey, however, didn’t probably relish the prospect of being in there for the long haul.

The image was rather noisy at ISO 3200 as the camera had forced this to get a 1/focal-length shutter speed. In post, noise reduction had to be done first before embarking on other tweaks to the image.

My usual workflow would’ve left noise reduction to the last but a prior attempt had raised the noise level from 9.2 to 25 after just a few tweaks. So I had figured that the result might be better if I were to start with a cleaner image.
