I'm very happy to report that since school has started, I have had only a handful of days off! My weeks have been jam-packed with LOTS of sub days, which I couldn't be happier about. I am on sub lists at about 5 different schools, two of which use me regularly. Unfortunately, these two schools are about an hour apart. This means I have been doing A LOT of traveling back and forth, and that way too much of my income is going towards gas. Not cool. But that does mean that I'm getting a ton of work between all of these schools, which is exactly what I need. So YAY!
I had an interview last week at the elementary school in one of the neighboring towns to my hometown. It was for a sixth grade math/science position. I wasn't too thrilled about it at first because it's not really an area I want to be in. I absolutely love my hometown and the area surrounding it, but it honestly doesn't have much to offer. I'm hoping to move out of state in the very near future in order to do a whole lot more living before I get too comfortable to leave. Anyway, the interview went ok - I didn't feel like it went amazingly, but I didn't feel like it went horrible either. But I got a letter from them just a day or two ago saying they chose someone else, so that's that I guess. I'm not heartbroken by any means, but I'm always holding out hope for a full-time job. Just would have been nice.
On the other hand, part of me is relieved that I didn't get it because I have already committed to TWO long-term substitute positions at home! There are lots of teachers having babies, which is wonderful for me, and I get to cover two of their maternity leaves. One is coming right up at the end of this month. She is a second grade teacher, (AHH!) but she has a small class full of awesome kiddos so I am very excited! It will only last for about 3 weeks, and falls in between their Thanksgiving and Winter vacations. What a super fun time of year to be in an elementary school! I'm just trying to mentally prepare myself for the utter exhaustion of working with second graders... The other long-term sub position will be around the end of March and hopefully last a full 6 weeks. It is in a seventh grade reading classroom, which will be AMAZING! I am beyond excited to be there. Middle school is my favorite! (I know, I'm crazy, right?!) I'm very, very excited and thankful to have TWO awesome long-term substitute opportunities! Hopefully, this will be just what I need to help get me that perfect full-time teaching job!
