A hearty hello from the 2014-2015 seasonal staff at Long Lake!
A male Cecropia Moth (Hyalophora cecropia) visited Long Lake last Friday! Cercropia moths are the largest moth of North America, You can easily tell males and females by their antenna! Males have larger, feathery antenna then their female counterparts.

While out looking for flowers, one of our naturalists wondered if spiders would eat ticks. She happened upon a tick and spider web and combined the two to see what would happen. The spider came out to investigate and then went back to its hiding place. The tick then crawled off the web.
