We missed a Loo Kee
If you remember, there were a handful of Loo Kee easter eggs in She-Ra. I found another
The belt buckle here is Loo Kee's face. I don't think anyone caught this one
WOW! Why I am I just realizing this?!
Baby Glimmer Appreciation Post
(from The Portal)
look who went to princess prom ! ✨
I just noticed It
Can I just say, I love the little homages to the original series that they did for the new She-Ra!!
First we have Kowl who was one of their friends. He was an owl with ears that helped him fly, but they had him as a stuffed animal?!
Cute!!!
And when Madam Razz talks about her friend Loo- Kee?!
THIS IS LOO- KEE!!!
And the best part is that when she says this
It’s because in the original She-Ra he would always appear in every episode but he would always hide and you’d have to find him like a Where’s Waldo type game!!!!
UGH!! I love this series!!!!!!
In relation to your Skeletor in Etheria fanfic, which characters from the original She-Ra cartoon were you expecting or not expecting to appear in the 2018 She-Ra reboot?
Oh, that’s a good question! Long post incoming!
I gotta preface this by admitting that I’m hardly an expert on the 80s show. I got into the reboot first and watched a few classic episodes while waiting for s2 to come out (basically the five or so that make up Secret of the Sword, and the Christmas special), and I’ve only seen a handful of others since then. But I absolutely love what I have seen and I highly recommend it to any SPoP fans in search of a silly good time.
I remember being most intrigued to find out that in the classic show, Hordak’s position in the Horde is commonly known to be less “supreme overlord” and more “regional manager.” I was also pretty impressed by Horde Prime when I first saw him in the Christmas special. So, when the reboot revealed both of those details as a twist in s3, it was actually pretty exciting and made me feel like a total smartypants for expecting it.
Having said that, pretty much everything else came as a surprise. I wasn’t paying super close attention my first time through s1, so Madame Razz being there went completely over my head. But by s3 I was familiar with the classic character, and it felt pretty fun to go “Hey it’s the ‘deary-my’ witch!” when she turned up. I also groaned out loud at Loo-Kee’s cameo in the same season, mainly because Lab Partner and I developed a habit of cussing him out while watching the classic show, like so:
Loo-Kee: Hey, it’s me, Loo-Kee! Didja find me today?
Us: FUCK NO
Loo-Kee: Today we learned an important lesson!
Us: GO BACK TO HELL LOO-KEE
...Which isn’t to say I wasn’t delighted by that same cameo! I love every ridiculous thing about both shows, you see. I also got pretty good at spotting classic characters even when I didn’t recognize them. I’d be all “Oh, you have a gimmick and your name ends with an A? You’re definitely from the old show.”
Meanwhile, as far as stuff I expected that didn’t happen? I can remember that back during s2 I strongly hoped He-Man would turn up in a sidekick capacity, possibly by coming through Hordak’s portal. I imagined his SPoP version would be a friendly, helpful, and extremely stupid himbo of the “Launchpad McQuack” variety.
I actually hung on to this hope for quite a while (“Angella is on Eternia” is still my pet theory), but ultimately I was kind of glad it didn’t happen, both because He-Man being there would have made the story way too bloated, and because after the Big Twist in s4 I feel like he would have logically had to be a villain.
(Unless a movie comes out and directly contradicts me, my headcanon will continue to be that the “surviving First Ones faction” Adora comes from includes my imagined version of He-Man.)
I also had a not-very-serious prediction before s5 came out that during an attempt to rescue Hordak from Prime, the main cast would find another “defective” clone and name the second one “Skeletor.” I didn’t expect this to actually happen (imagine my surprise when we met Wrong Hordak and I turned out to be half right), but thinking about different ways Skeletor could join the SPoP universe was the germ that eventually became my fic, where he’s a grumpy reprogrammed Horde drone who quotes Alan Oppenheimer. And now you know!
Oh, and one last thing. Before I learned that his official name is “Commander Cobalt,” I totally thought this guy was supposed to be the SPoP version of Mantenna:
