Dear Santa,

The year is 2005.

A six year-old girl attacks the presents underneath her Christmas tree. Her parents take pictures as she unwraps the gifts from her family first, saving her present from Santa for last. Ordinarily she would go after Santa’s present first but this year.. this year is special.

This year she asked Santa for Littlest Pet Shop toys. But not just any Littlest Pet Shop, oh no; this year she wanted the little house with with the shower and doggy door. She spent all year begging her parents for it, taking their ominous “Be good and we’ll see” answers as a sign that you would get it for her. It was all she ever wanted from this life.

She gets pajamas from her grandparents. She gets a book from her favorite aunt. Closer and closer she gets to opening your present, trembling with excitement as her hands first encounter the wrapping. She begins tearing at the wrapping.

But is it the Littlest Pet Shop house?! Is it the Littlest Pet Shop house?!

NO. IT WAS A MOTHERFUCKNG BARBIE DOLL.

And on that faithful winter morning, that six year-old girl knew horror and sadness unlike any other she had ever experienced.

That little girl.. was me.
