I just realized that hilariously, the Tyrannosaurus and Pteranodon families literally have the same genetic tendencies to inherit something from the grandparents more than the actual parents.
The recessive genes are strong in both families!
We all know about how Shiny and Don are the spitting images of their grandparents, and Mr. Pteranodon likely is the same way considering he doesn't look like his parents, but let's talk about the Tyrannosaurus family!
Annie has green eyes while both her parents have blue eyes! This means Annie got her green eyes from a grandparent.
And now going into my own headcanon land:
Boris' own mother was actually Tyrannosaurus Mcraeensis, not Tyrannosaurus Rex. (This headcanon is courtesy of @bugiesocksficcorner !) For Boris and Annie, this means that their patterns have spots as well as stripes, but hilariously, Annie got the most visible pattern similarities to T. Mcraeensis, not Boris (though he certainly has them too!) In terms of skull structure, Boris and Annie are very T-Rex in that department still, the dominant genes in Boris' family are very T-Rex side of the family.
I've always envisioned Buddy and Annie's daughter, Ansisa Tyrannosaurus, with blue eyes like Boris and Dolores! Recently I've also been envisioning Ansisa with that burnt dark orange complexion Annie's extended family has in Zeppelin: Atoll. But that's the thing, another case of recessive genes from a previous generation popping up in the future!
On his mother's side, Buddy's own biological family dominantly has the same light orange complexion. Buddy's mom has different eyes and a very different stripe pattern though. Buddy's is the closest to his uncle's. Buddy also got his green eyes from the same genes as his uncle! This means that, once again, it's recessive grandparent genes!!! On his dad's side, Buddy and his father look nothing alike. Cain Tyrannosaurus has a lighter complexion than Buddy, SunnyD enters my mind lol! And Cain has thinner, sharper stripes. Also, Cain has grey eyes, not green.
Man, Dinosaur Train genetics are fun!
