a character goes to a fortune teller to ask when they'll die and the fortune teller predicts that they shall die when they leave their house.

So the character asks the fortune teller if they can stay in the house for a little while to put off dying until they get everything in order and the fortune teller agrees

the two get along while they are in the house and proceed to become room mates/lovers with the character becoming a hermit that never leaves the house, thus rendering them practically immortal while the fortune teller goes out to get anything the two need

bonus, the fortune teller could themselves be magic, a sort of witch, wizard, or mage, and uses magic to live forever with the character, the two expanding the house in odd ways over the many years creating an elaborate magical home
