I just wanted to share with you a preliminary recording of one of the songs I'm working on for an upcoming mandala eyes project involving both me and Lindsay. (I shared a shoddy cellphone recording of this same idea a while ago.)
The project as a whole is an album generated by our relationship. I'm making music while Lindsay paints and scribbles, influenced by my sounds. When I return to my songs and recordings after seeing her art inspired by them, I have the influence of her visuals to shape the way I treat details in the writing and recording process.
This partiular song, "Going to Portland," was written in the morning Lindsay and I left to visit Portland, OR this summer. In this recording, there are recordings of birds I took with my cellphone while we were hiking in the forest surrounding the city during our visit. I performed the actual guitar stuff using the EHX 2880 multitrack looper and four loops which I had recorded a while ago and saved for later.
In other news, it looks like the new Life album is for now being truncated to a one-song EP, since all us band members are extremely busy with our individual lives and it's proven tough to make a cohesive effort in the limited timeframe of the summer. The track is called "How Strange It Is to Be Anything At All" and if you saw the set Sir Geo and I did at Radioactive Records all that time ago, you've heard it.
Lindsay and I hope to start playing some shows starting in late July, so if you're in a local band or part of a thing that's happening and would be interested in adding us to a bill around then or in August, e-mail [email protected] or even just submit an ask on tumblr. We'll hope to bring some paintings/drawings and possibly even t-shirts around with us to the shows.
The more time goes by, the more I find myself wishing we could offer some of our music to you on vinyl. So, I'm thinking about taking two of the shorter songs from this upcoming album and getting them pressed in 7" vinyl. If you think this sounds awesome, keep following this tumblr and/or join our mailing list. We won't send out an e-mail unless we're playing a show (rare for us), releasing a new album/EP, or something similarly important. We'll make sure you know if we get on to vinyl, which might involve starting a kickstarter, so, if you're interested make sure you stick around cause we really appreciate your help and support, and want nothing more than to offer you the best music we can make in formats that all your senses will love.
