The Jiwon Choi/Lies of P feature from Spanish magazine Revista Manual in 2024.
There's other features on other figures on the industry in this issue, like Yoshi P and the Final Fantasy franchise, let me know if you'd like to see those. (I believe these are exclusives)
The one new thing I think he mentions is that LoP actually took 5 years to make from conception to finish. Actual production was 3 years, so it spent 2 years in pre-production and conception
its funny because the LOTF devs said the iterative process of developing the game is like a soulslike itself and now I'm finding JIWON CHOI SAID IT FIRST GET WRECKED /jk
so happy to have this in my hands now. There are prints in here I was really tempted to put up (like that Pieta shot), but it's mint condition and I won't do it
sorry for the warping, I thought of scanning these on a scanbed, but I don't want to damage the spine. [The only person who cares about this -> me]
LOP Director's piece on GameInformer for the Legend of Zelda's Ruby anniversary.
some semi-updates to lop 2.
Neowiz co CEO (Sean Kim) mentions that LOP2 development is still going strong, but more importantly Director Choi and the team seem optimistic about it, which is hopeful.
“At this point, there is nothing specific we can share in detail,” he told Game Informer. “I can tell you that the team at Round8 Studio is excited about their work and fully focused on development. “With the Lies of P DLC receiving further recognition through its various award wins and director Choi Ji-Won expressing strong confidence in the studio’s next project, we hope fans will continue to look forward to what’s ahead as much as we are.”
About the lop event on May 14th:
Some were disappointed at the QnA session with Choi. Out of the many thoughtful questions people submitted, he answered a total of only six. I would have liked to see all the responses, too, but it's clear that it was not possible. It's also possible that they were planning on asking more questions, but he wasn't feeling too well after the last one. (Unfortunately, BomBom passed away the previous year.) I think that's likely what happened. Sophia (on the discord) did say that the QnA was going to be delayed on lopcord. So I don't know if maybe that's why they took the break.
I quite liked the QnA session. There is a lot we know about LoP, but genuinely, there isn't a whole lot we know about the director and his career. Granted not everyone is going to be interested in stuff like that, but I am, and they were included questions the community were asking. I thought his answers were super interesting and insightful. Him saying LoP will likely remain action based but he's exploring how to integrate music into games (and maybe moving away from the "traditional" formula of souls-like games???). The game's fixation on music. Saying he thought he would find pride and confidence if LoP became this huge success - but the opposite happening. Saying Sophia was his favourite character at the moment (implying that her situation is relatable for him now). And also that BomBom was adopted when she was older, so he never got a chance to see her as a kitten.
I wanted to upload a re-subbed version sometime soon (currently available on the lopcord). By the way, There's absolutely nothing wrong with the original subtitles, but they are quicker live-ish ones edited in a short amount of time. There really isn't a whole lot of extra context to add honestly, other than he mentions that he had been thinking over about how to break the news about Bombom very much ["Frankly, I do not know how to deliver this news"]. But it seems like a fun little project for me.
