The Lorde Concert 10/10
The night began when my friend picked me up from my house. We got into the car and her grandma drove us to the concert. The ride was long but tolerable. My thoughts were abundant and fleeting. Did I look okay? Is she going to sound as amazing in person as she does on her record? Are we going to be close to the stage? What am I eating for dinner? All valid question that were eventually answered with: sure, yes maybe even better, yes , and half of a pb&j, cheez-its and gummy octopi from the market .
Once we got to the venue it took us forever to find parking. Not because the lots were full but because there are numerous lots and stages. There were also a lot of incompetent traffic directors who were very good at giving unsuspecting grandmothers not so good of directions.
When we finally found parking ( I use finally here because everything feels like an eternity when you're excited for something.) we went on a search for a bridge that could take us straight to the theater. We went up the elevator, up again, down , and then when we were back where we started it was decided that we would just leave the parking structure and figure it out from there. After many well deserved thank you's to her grandma we were off.
While we were walking it was made apparent that there was indeed a bridge just two small sets of stairs away. As we walked down the bridge that " What am I going to eat?" question popped back into our heads. We stopped at a small cafe in the middle of dorms. It was full of college students fresh out of their awkward stages. This was enough to drop my confidence levels from a solid 9 to about a 5. Let's just say that these students were probably at fault for the dinner choices I made that were mentioned before.
After a little more walking we were at the venue. Everyone looked HOT and when I say hot I mean H O T. Black at white, opaque tights, gorgeous maxi dresses, platforms, chokers and high waisted everything??? I was in heaven. Our seats ended up being super close to the stage which was a wonderful surprise.
As we were impatiently waiting for the concert we ate our makeshift dinner and took some pictures. Then Majical Cloudz came onstage. At this point I had no idea who these people were or the name of their band ( nor did I think that I would get the chance to meet them after the concert) so I had no idea what I would be listening to. Devon informed us that it was the last show of the tour and that the night was very bittersweet. He proceeded to blow everyone away with the songs from their album. They were amazing. Devon's higher register was flawless. Once their performance ended it was time to wait another 30 minutes ( which felt more like 30 hours) for Lorde to take stage.
It was definitely worth the wait. Lorde came onstage and naturally everyone had a heart attack ( including myself). The first song she sang was Glory & Gore which is one of my favorites. It was amazing at overwhelming and just all around spectacular. There was a guy sitting next to me who was extremely fun just to vibe out with. We danced, we sang, we screamed, we came close to tears and we did all of these things together. 2 wardrobe changes, 1 album, 2 covers, 2 set changes, fog bubbles, 1 brand new song and a blast of confetti later the concert was over. No one in that audience or onstage wanted it to end. Ella was flawless and had a strong connection with her audience throughout the whole show. I would definitely see her in concert another time ( or 400 more times).
After the show we went on a search for Majical Cloudz because they announced that they would be talking to fans when the show ended. We stumbled across a long line of people gathered around three busses. After joining the line we found out that it was rumored that Ella was going to be signing autographs after the show. Of course, we joined the line. 3 hours later and 1 bus down we found out she had left right in front of our eyes. Yes, this was super disappointing. But then, as we were walking back we saw Devon. After pushing myself to the front I got to compliment him on his amazing performance, get a photo with him, and a signature. He was very humble and lovely. So here's the lesson folks, when waiting to meet someone after a concert perseverance is key. Sure maybe you won't meet the person you were waiting for but someone else worth meeting is bound to walk out of the tour bus. ( We also saw Ella's mother!!). Waiting to meet someone after a concert is just a cool experience. You get to anticipate something awesome with a body of people with the same love for music as you. I suggest you do this at least once!!!
After this, we walked back to the car. The drive home I slept in the car and was very content. Once I got time I was bombarded with question from my mother. I tried my best to answer them but eventually had to tell her I was way too tired to use my brain. Before I went to bed I made sure to empty my bag of it's contents which included: some money that wasn't spent, a lot of confetti with a drawings of Ella printed on them and our tickets. I went to sleep content and woke up content. Now i'm writing this.
I hope you enjoyed reading this if anyone ever does. I wrote this mostly because I wanted to remember this later in life and I can always find this in my archive. Also, i've never really had anything interesting to write a blog post/text post about so I figured i'd take this opportunity.
Some questions for readers: Have ever seen Lorde in concert and what was your experience? Have you ever waited for an artist/band after a concert and what was your experience? and.. Should I write more stories/text posts like this?
