This is not a particularly hot take but I’m near the end of season 1 now and, Sonic Boom? Pretty good cartoon

I think it wins the title of best Sonic cartoon purely by getting in its own way the least. SatAM and X are pretty solid with some rough spots, but Boom just wants to be a comedy show with the core Sega cast (plus Sticks) and it’s good at being that. One of its greatest strengths is that it just lets the modern voice cast be funny. Roger Craig Smith and Mike Pollock in particular are just consistently great in it, and Colleen and Cindy finally have good material to work with for Tails and Amy

Its greatest flaw is just that it often goes for very easy, generic kids cartoon jokes with stiff comedic timing, for lack of a better descriptor. Jokes you’ve seen a million times before in other shows. Stuff like Tails saying “And I have serious short term memory loss! ... And I have serious short term memory loss!” The worst offender with this is easily Knuckles. For an exaggerated comedy show like this I don’t think it’s necessarily bad to make Knuckles the himbo, but so often he gets saddled with these awful one-liners to remind us that he’s The Stupid One. He still has his funny moments, but stuff like him randomly picking a trash can up off the ground and thinking it’s a hat (which becomes the basis for an entire episode) or him literally forgetting how to breathe is just so lazy. He’s constantly the butt of his own stale jokes like this and I just feel bad for the guy. If you’re gonna have a character be The Stupid One you gotta get more creative with their airheadedness. Like Ed swallowing an entire mattress whole on Ed Edd n Eddy, or half the shit that comes out of Mac and Charlie’s mouths on Always Sunny

But it’s mostly pretty fun. I’m enjoying it decently

Why has Rodan been in so few Godzilla movies?

I mean… he really hasn’t? Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be his sixth, not counting cameos – the only monsters who’ve surpassed or equaled that are Mothra, Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla. Rodan is odd in that he’s never had his name in the title of a Godzilla movie though.

You forget in Escape it's revealed that the monkey he took with him to hold down the switch to the entrance to the monkey head died hanging from the lever because Guybrush never told him to stop

Does... does Bunnie want to be a hair-dresser because she's a hare? This seems like the kind of joke an early Gallagher comic would pull and I can't get it out of my mind.

This hadn’t really crossed my mind. He doesn’t use the pun in issue #3 when Bunnie’s introduced, but in the next issue’s one-page story where Bunnie tries out being Knothole’s hair stylist there are not one, not two, but three “hair”/”hare” gags... so uh, yeah, wouldn’t put it past him
