What elevates Lorkhan and Sheogorath from other trickster gods in a media landscape littered with the fuckers is the love and tragedy. This heart is the heart of the world: for one was made to satisfy the other. Is a brilliant fucking line.

Having Sheogorath be Lorkhan's madness, his drive to create and love when he was built to destroy, this embodiment of free will that inherently binds him to the base makeup of all mortals and the Mundus is just really clever and immediately emotionally resonant. Like…of course he gets special treatment from Kyne, he’s the creative spark of her husband. His ability to walk Mundus freely when she grieves Lorkhan is unlike anything else we see from the other princes.

Sheogorath is a god of creativity. He loves artists and lavishes affection on his favorites like Relmyna Verenim. He loves his people! With all the horrors that brings upon them. And invites them to live at his side at the seat of his power. The mortals of the Isles are even allowed to preach that he isn’t a god, that he’s just an imposter.

The Greymarch is an especially cruel punishment for a god of creation. The emotional climax of the narrative isn’t just Sheogorath breaking down, it’s Sheogorath actively sabotaging his own plan by telling the player to flee because the thought of killing them along with the rest of his world is clearly unbearable. This Terrifying Unfathomable Being Loves You!
