This (controversial) ad is referencing “Toyota War," a conflict in Chad during the 1980s where Toyota Hilux pickup trucks were heavily used as technicals (vehicles with mounted weapons). The ad depicts various generations of the Hilux from late ‘60’s release, implying its long history and association with armed conflict: a salute (pun intended) to the Toyota Hilux’s rugged reliability, flexibility and longevity.
Continuing homage to long forgotten commercial trucks/lorries/transporters from the turn of this century that shaped the future of America. Especially the stalwarts that dwindled away into obscurity.
