some thoughts to share about being a multimedia artist
From the beginning, I knew that I would end up in arts one way or another.
I have dabbled and fell in love with science and literature and sociologies and other fields of study, but I never forsook art. They all have a space in my little fist-sized heart. Still, I want to live as an artist first before anything else not because it feels more important or it seems easier to an uninformed person but because being an artist is a dream. And a continuous one at that.
Jack of All Trades
Being a multimedia artist is being adept in many things. Within the name itself, multimedia, expresses the idea that I am an artist of many fields. As stated previously, I know a thing or two about dipping my toes in unknown waters. It is an exhilarating experience filled with adrenaline, expectations, and experiences. And with the many fields of art, I, for sure, am having and will continue to have these artistic adventures where I will continue to learn and adapt to the trends of art like leaf that follows the river current.
Master of None
A common misconception of being a multimedia artist is that we know the basics of everything but not more than enough of one thing. We are not here to diss on Fine Arts and the people who have mastered one thing. As artist, we should support fellow artists in their pursuit of art. I see being a multimedia artist as a modern-day strategy and lifestyle of an artist. With many ways of art popping out everywhere like mushrooms on the forest floor, learning the lot of those gives more job opportunities.
But Better than Master of One
It is not as though we do the multimedia part of it equally. Of course, one way or another, we will have our favorite(s) which we love or do better than the rest. It is just a matter of covering all our bases. In our eyes, we want to be the swiss knife of the art world. We are not saying that we will fight the knives and other tools out there. We just want to be useful and well-rounded.
Know Before You Go
At the end of the day, an artist is still an artist. Both bleed and put their souls into every of their works – like horcruxes but the less murder-y and more creative version of it). Efforts are put into our works and it is a legitimate career no matter how painful it is for us to hear otherwise. Hopefully, this sheds a light upon the darkened problem and misconception on us. Support the creatives and we will make the world a better place.
