This newest release from Los Estanques (Madrid, Spain) on Action Weekend (also out of Spain) is really unlike any of their previous releases. This almost seems like something that Queen or The Divine Comedy would have created. It’s beautiful, melodic and anthemic.
They’re other releases tend toward garage/psych rock...almost “by the numbers”. And while the 2nd song does have a bit more of a Boogarins psych/rock feel, it also sounds like Bryan Scary.
My only wish is that this 7″ wasn’t so prohibitively priced. When I emailed the label, I heard back immediately from Carlos who explained the sound and price:
“These 2 songs are the rest of the 4th album they had recorded but they suffer a robbery of their hard drive and computer with all the recordings and security copy. The 4th album was going to have been more conceptual. Each song was going to have talked about a different character. What they have in common is that they go to the same bar. This is the story and the reason of the expensive price of the record. The songs have a lot of sentimental value for the group because they are the only ones that have been saved from theft.”
So, I guess we should all just spend the money
