2025 Los Dinamos (hacer senderismo) The pollution (contaminación) was so high in Mexico City this week that they had to limit the number of cars on the road. They do this by dividing all the cars into 5 groups by the last number of the license plate, and if you’re in that color (e.g., yellow if ending in 5 or 6), you can’t drive your car that day (or after a certain time), I learned from my Uber driver who was exempt because he was driving an electric BYD. When I first arrived I thought I was getting a cold from the nasal congestion. My host suggested it was from the pollution, and now I think he was right, as I didn’t develop a cold and have adjusted a bit. But for this, I needed to get out of the city and take a hike. -Hiking is called “hacer senderismo”, to make a trail, kind of. A sendero is a trail, a road in the wood. Recently it was featured in Agatha All Along, when a group of witches had to “walk The Road” to achieve some kind of power, etc. Their song The Witches Road was translated to El Sendero de las Brujas. I found no witches at Los Dinamos, a hike along the Rio Magdalena, about 40 minutes out of town. -I did find a ton of locals setting up for barbecues at the base, a beautiful river with lots of crossings along the trail, and restaurants at the top of the trail with tons of options. Hearing all kinds of familiar American birdsong, the babbling brook, the song of the forest if you know, made this forest bathing just what the doctor ordered.
