Lost Rewatch: 1x17 ...In Translation
Oh look, a pun title! So this episode is bound to be full of laughs, right? ...Right?
Mr Douchebag asks Jin ‘Why do you want to marry my daughter?’ and Jin says ‘I have ambitions’. Uh... what?
‘She is my dream’ is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard, ngl
As it turns out, google translate is not a good way to find out what Jin and Sun are saying
Michael, I think anyone with a functioning brain would work out why Sun slapped you. You do remember Jin trying to drown you, right?
Am I missing something obvious, or is Sun putting a dress... over a dress?
That being said, Jin and Sun’s early flashback scenes never fail to make me grin like an idiot
Is Michael really the only one working on their escape plan?
WOah, that flirting escalated very quickly
If Walt is the one who set fire to the raft, how did he get to running behind Micheal?
So why does the owner of a Car Business care about The Secretary for Environmental Safety?
So let’s look at the timeline a moment. Jin gets promoted because of Sun’s actions with Jin’s mother. Mr Douchebag immediately sends him to ‘send a message’ to this guy, and that leads to their marriage deteriorating. That had to have been a few months, at most. And we know Jin and Sun have been married for several years. So Sun waited years to escape a marriage that has been fractured almost since it started?
Which would be technically fine, if unbelievable, if not for the dog. First, the dog Sun is given in her episode looks a lot younger than this one. But then when she’s planning her escape, Bpo Bpo looks the exact same age as it does here. How does this dog age?
Why would this random little girl be watching a show about Hurley? It’s a fun little Easter Egg, but still
I don’t know what I find more infuriating: that Boone continues to shit all over Shannon, or that Sayid believes him!
I thought Boone was over wanting Shannon’s attention?
Why is the assassin man wearing white? How is that practical?
Well this scene plays very different from Jin’s point of view. Poor baby
Thank you, Locke! Finally someone is speaking sense! Although admittedly it wasn’t the Others who burned the raft, so...
This scene heartbreaking, but... Sun, please speak Korean. What you’re saying could change his mind, but in English it just sounds like betrayal
You know, Jin’s dad might be the only nice dad in the whole show
I thought Sayid was having second thoughts about Shannon? He seems fine here
I know Sayid’s expression is supposed to be romantic, but to me it just looks like he’s thinking “Oh, God, you’ve been talking to Locke, haven’t you?”
Hell yeah, Team Raft Bros is a go!
This might be the only musical montage I like, if only because Hurley’s CD player breaks
Overall Review:
Gah, Jin and Sun really are killing us this season, aren’t they? This is another great episode. It takes everything you thought about a character and, in about 40 minutes, flips it entirely on it’s head. Poor Jin, poor Sun. Thank goodness we’re close to Exodus part 1
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
I have nothing else to say. Another great episode!
