One summer in GA, where I spent most of my time in the library, I found this manga that was about a plant shop owner who was maybe gay, might have identified as something else but I can’t remember. He was deviously sassy and made poisons for people to choose to use. He was like really cryptic. Mostly the poison backfired on the person using them I think. All I know is that there was always a twist and the person seeking it suffered. I want to read them again but I do not recall the title 😩😭 help please 🥺

As the Museum’s second floor galleries are being reinstalled, we’ve been acquiring resources on the history of Japanese art. This illustration from Hokusai's Lost Manga (left) shows the use of a Japanese woodworking tool, a Chona or Adze.

This figure resembles a similar image found in Toshio Odate’s book on Japanese woodworking tools (right), although 160 years apart. Odate, who taught for 16 years at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, explains why the chona is so close to the worker’s foot, “If the shona should slip slightly, the user catches its upper surface with the sole of the foot.”
