Chapter ONE | off we BE to Chapter THREE~
Master Kim
He was standing in his library. Occupying his thoughts with everything except for the girl that was in the chambers just 2 floors beneath his feet. He didn’t know why he chose to keep her instead of letting her go. It seemed to be the best option for her safety in that moment. Everything went way too fast. If he hadn’t stepped in that moment who knows what would’ve happened to her. Now he only had to make sure that Taehyung wouldn’t go near her.
Why did she have to pick a fight with him?
With a sigh he put away the book he was holding. It didn’t seem to give much distraction anyways. His whole life could turn into ruins if he wasn’t careful just because he had to grow a weakness for a mere human like her. He was worried, concern eating him up from the inside. He was scared of what others might say about him. He was scared that others might see him as weak. But what he was most frightened about was that something might happen to her.
“You called for me, Master Kim?”
A voice ripped him out of his thoughts. He looked around to see his servant Jimin standing in the doorway. Confusion spread inside of him. He didn’t call for the small blond boy.
“I didn’t call you. What are you doing up here instead of guarding downstairs??”
Jimin looked just as confused as Namjoon looked angry in this moment. He started to fumble with his suit jacket looking startled.
“Master Taehyung told me-“
“TAEHYUNG?!”
Namjoons scream startled Jimin making him flinch and his eyes widened. Then realization started to sink in for both of them staring at each other in shock before Namjoon disappeared leaving only a cloud of black smoke behind.
Within a mere second he reappeared in her room and the scene right before his eyes made his blood boil in anger. Taehyung was leaning above the girl with his hand on her cheek. She looked like she was having a nightmare – knitted brows and twisting in her sleep under his touch. Namjoon knew that the younger boy was manipulating her dream and that ripping him from her will wake her up immediately. He considered how to approach him within seconds trying not to get distracted by the smell of fresh blood spreading in the room.
If he hurt her I’m gonna kill him.
Not even 5 seconds after his arrival at the scene Namjoon made his way to the other guy grabbing him by his throat in pure anger and disappearing into black fog together with him just to reappear in the hallway right before the door to her room. Lifting Taehyung up by his throat he pressed him against the wall opposite of her room.
“We had a pact.” Namjoons eyes glowed red with pure anger. Taehyung just laughed bitterly.
“Aw common I was just messing with her a little. I didn’t even hurt her…. Yet. Ouch ouch ouch - okay okay!” Complaining about Namjoons tight grip getting even tighter Taehyung hit his leaders hand in an almost playful but surrendering kind of way. Namjoon loosened his hand on the youngers throat and put him back on the ground. His eyes wandered to Taehyungs nose which looked fairly damaged but fixed on his eyes dead serious again.
“Seems like she already gave you a punishment herself. Don’t go near her again. This room is off limits for you from now on until I say otherwise. Understood?”
“Yes, sir!”, Taehyung saluted in a not serious way but flinched as soon as Namjoon wanted to raise his hand again only being stopped by a horrific scream coming from the room behind him. His eyes find the door immediately giving Taehyung enough time to just disappear into black smoke with a huge amused grin on his face.
Namjoon cursed under his breath but didn’t lose any time in telling Jimin to immediately check on her.
Jimin came in running at the same time as she fell on her knees. Not wanting to believe the reality she’s finding herself in and starting to panic to the pure feeling of fright and unsafety. She felt like she was going to die at some point in this room. Whoever it was that locked her in here she felt like - in this moment - that he wanted her to die.
This Master Kim. He must be this Kim Taehyung. He wants me to die. I’m sure of this. I have to get out of here!!
Before she could get up her body suddenly started to calm down feeling a warm embrace. Finally dragged out of her thoughts she realized that Jimin was right in front of her hugging her so tightly and comforting that she couldn’t help but just start to cry.
“Why is this happening to me? I don’t understand any of this! Please help me….”
She sobbed in his shoulder desperately clawing into the fabric of his suit jacket.
“Please Jimin…”
Jimins eyes met those of his Master still standing at the door and watching this scene with a very serious face.
“I’m here. Don’t worry. I’ll help you with everything you need and I’ll protect you. But now we got to first get up from this floor. I don’t want you to get sick, Miss.”
Jimins soft voice calmed the remaining anxiety in her heart down making her just nod in agreement still sniffling a little bit from the cry. He helped her on her bed and started to clean up the mess Taehyung made. He took the painting out of the room. She could hear him talk with someone softly through the door. Trying to collect herself she stood up to check on herself in the mirror. Hands on her dresser she stared at her reflection taking a deep breath and wiping away the remains of her tears. One moment later he came back in with a soft knock on the door. Her head turned to him as he peeked through the door telling her that there is someone that wants to meet her.
Who would want to meet me at this hour? But then I don’t even have a clue what time it is. And after what just happened I can’t sleep anymore anyways.
“Let him in.” She smiled softly at Jimin while he nodded as a response and opened the door completely letting in a tall, friendly looking man. He had a nice dimpled smile and his eyes looked at her adoringly.
“If I may introduce. This is-“
“It’s okay Jimin I can do it alone. Thank you for your help you may go take a break now.” The tall guy told Jimin in a friendly but stern manner. He was wearing pretty casual clothes in contrast to Jimin. Light cropped linen pants and a simple dark grey shirt tugged in it framed his body showing his slim but still muscular figure. Jimin went outside with a slight bow and a smile at the two of them. The tall man looked back at her smirking slightly at how she was checking him out.
“I’m Kim Namjoon. The one that found you and brought you here.”
“Oh-…Oh! You are that Master Kim Jimin was talking about??”
He laughed.
“I always tell him to loosen up a little. Master Kim sounds so old don’t you think? You can just call me Namjoon.” He sat on her bed and got a little bit more serious.
“You must have a lot of questions.”
She turned to him for a moment not sure what to say now that someone is actually willing to hear out her questions. She swallowed nervously and found a spot on the ground that still had some of the blood from Taehyungs attack earlier today.
“Who is Kim Taehyung?” Her mouth asked faster than her brain could think. Namjoon looked quite surprised at that question not expecting her to ask that out of everything possible.
“Well. You could say he’s like a little brother to me. We all live here together. We’re friends but sometimes even we don’t get along quite well. As to what he did earlier… He was just messing with you. Please don’t take his jokes too seriously he just doesn’t know when to stop. I will get my hands on him for that later I promise you.”
She stood there leaning against the dresser and fixating that spot on the ground while listening intently to his explanation.
“He’s got a pretty sick sense of humor if you ask me…” She mumbles still angry at what he did - making Namjoon laugh.
His laugh sounds nice.
Blushing a little bit at her thought she looked at her feet and then slowly up towards Namjoon. He just laughed looking to the side. She looked at him for a while thinking of what’s the best way of wording her next question. In the end she decided to go with the simplest way of asking.
“What happened to me?” His smile disappeared leaving a quite serious look on his face. He still didn’t look at her. “Like… who am I? Do you know me?”
Her heart started beating a little faster anticipating the answer. She was anxious of hearing it but she wanted to know the answer to this strange riddle her mind has created.
“To be honest…” He leaned forward folding his hands and propping his elbows on his knees. “I don’t know. You were laying outside of our house unconscious when we found you. You had this ball gown on so I thought maybe you were on your way to the annual mask ball held at our mansion. But something must have happened to you so I brought you inside with the help of Jimin. He took care of you for the rest of the evening since I had to get back to the party. But I really can’t tell you who you are. Our invitations don’t get send by us and there are many people showing up without any as well so I couldn’t even tell you by that. I’m really sorry.” He looked into her eyes as soon as he finished. Waiting for any reaction of her.
She slowly started to nod. Tears build inside of her eyes but she didn’t let them fall. She had to deal with this and stop crying all the time because crying won’t change anything. Blinking away her tears she looked away and then back at him. Her disappointment was obvious. He was the only one that could’ve known something about her but even to him she was an absolute stranger. She didn’t know what to do but was way too worn out emotionally to get worked up about it right now. She put on a quick sad smile before nodding and going to sit next to him on the bed.
“I don’t know who I am…. You don’t know who I am… So what…” She sighed. “Who am I going to be for now?”
He thought about that for a while looking down and then looking at her.
“Who do you want to be?”
Now it was her turn to look away at the ceiling and think.
“Hm… I’d like to be someone strong. Someone that can stand up for herself but is nice at the same time. Someone with a good heart. I really hope I was like that before.”
“Hm.. How about…” He stopped for a second rethinking his question but then going through with it. “How about we choose you a new name? Just until you remember your real one. We need something that we can call you by except for if you like being called Miss all the time.” He smirked while she just rolled her eyes and sighed at that title.
“I don’t know. Choosing a name for myself is strange. How about you choose it?”
“My pleasure.” He grinned happily and without even a second of thinking he made his suggestion. “How about Luna? It means moon.”
“A moon?” She laughed a little. “So I’m like round and big like a moon?”
He immediately started to panic waving his hands and his eyes grew wider.
“No no no! I mean- If the moon was a woman. I mean I don’t normally think about this kind of stuff but- I mean if it was a woman she would be beautiful and glowing- ah how do I explain this?” He ruffled his hair having a crisis while she started laughed more and more.
“Luna is a lovely name. I love it. Thank you.” Luna blushed looking down at her hands fidgeting in her lap. “Thanks for bringing me here too. Even though that Taehyung is taking his jokes too far this is way better than dying out there in the cold.”
“You’re welcome…” He looked at her adoringly. Loving the way she blushes at the slightest remark about her beauty he couldn’t help himself taking her hand. He looked at her hand wrapped by his hand stroking it softly. Her eyes shot up to look at his face. His eyes were fixated on their hands in the most loving way she’s ever seen. She should’ve been freaked out by this but it strangely felt like it was right. She felt warm inside but it was completely different to when Jimin touched her. It felt like a warmth spread from her inside rather than from his hand to her body.
“I promise that I will protect you. No matter what happens. I will help you.” He looked in her eyes her face bright red. He could hear her heart speed up. She nodded and just as the tension between them became unbearable he retrieved his hand from her and got up.
“I will bring you some things for enjoyment. Books and such. You can’t leave this room just yet. The mansion is huge and as long as we don’t know why you can’t remember anything the possibility of you getting lost is just too high. I want to make sure first that your health itself is intact. You surely understand that.”
She nodded. Feeling like she could trust Namjoon for real. His arguments just made sense to her so she agreed on staying here for now.
“As long as Taehyung won’t come back…” She joked a little.
“He won’t. I’ll make sure of that.” He smiled at her but there was a shimmer of anger in his eyes at the mention of Taehyung. With this last remark he left her alone locking the door behind him in the process.
A few weeks of Namjoon visiting her with new books everyday passed. She read through them so fast savoring every word and every line the characters tell each other. She loved reading about all these different people with different characters and then discussing them with Namjoon later.
She loved talking to Namjoon. He was really smart and had interesting views on everything. They always found a topic to talk about and it was almost going too well. Namjoon found himself wondering if they could just stay like this forever. Wondering if she could be his little secret. Only for him. But soon enough he found out that it wasn’t that easy. With every book she read her curiosity about the outside world and what kind of life she lived got stronger.
“All this staying in one room is driving me crazy. Can’t I come out with you once? Maybe just to your library? I would love to pick out a book myself. Maybe I find one that triggers my memory!” Luna tried convincing Namjoon, who was sat on the chair next to her bed.
He came in for his daily talk with her during lunch time accompanied by Jimin with a tray of food in his hand. The blond boy greeted her with a happy smile and a wave of his hand before placing down the tray on her bed. She smiled at him but then looked at Namjoon again who didn’t answer yet.
The tall demon looked up from the book he brought along to give her.
“Luna, we’ve talked about this. It’s still too dangerous for you to wander around the mansion. Just wait a little bit longer, okay?” He answered calm but compassionate. She clearly wasn’t satisfied with the answer which made him feel far worse than it should - making him remember the far too deep feelings he was developing for this human girl.
“I brought you this book. It’s one of my favorites. I thought that it might be to your taste, too.” Namjoon smiled trying to make her feel better while holding the book out for her to grab, but instead of doing that she turned away with a blank expression laying down in the bed again. Facing the wall, she mumbled just loud enough for them to hear:
“I’m sorry but I’m really exhausted. I want to sleep so could you just leave me alone for a while, please?”
The tall man paused for a moment before he slowly retrieved his hand. His heart was aching. Looking at the book and then at her he contemplated on what to do next. He stood up, put down the book on her desk and leaned over her laying figure.
Softly he placed a kiss on her head and whispered:
“Sleep well”, stroking her hair one last time before leaving the room feeling guilty.
Should I just let her go out with me? Should I let her go completely? Damn it I can’t think straight anymore.
“Miss?”
The servant was still standing in the room completely at a loss.
“It’s Luna, Jimin. Please don’t call me Miss all the time. What is it?”
“I’m sorry, Mis- eh Luna. Pardon me, but Master Kim really doesn’t mean any harm. He only wants what’s best for you-“
“What’s best for me?!”, She immediately stood up making Jimin jump, “I’ve been in here for weeks. Months even! I don’t even know how long exactly and I haven’t found out shit about my identity! I just want to go out and look for clues. Anything! Is that too much to ask?”
Letting herself plop down onto the bed she sat there feeling just as miserable as Namjoon.
“I know that he doesn’t mean any harm but I can’t stay here forever…”, she said looking at the floor.
“Don’t you like it here with us? Don’t you like being with Master Kim and…me?”, Jimin asked looking at her like a dog that just got hit.
“I do! I love being with you guys and all but…. I want my memory back Jimin. Something keeps bugging me in the back of my head. I feel like I’m going crazy and never getting to breath fresh air or see the sun is not helping either. Please Jimin. Can you help me?”
The servant looked around uncomfortably trying to avoid the desperate look she was piercing him with. She could see his inner struggle clearly but this was her only chance to get out of here. There was this unbearable urge in her that told her to go out and get to the bottom of all this.
“I’m really sorry. I have to obey my order.”, he told her after contemplating about his answer for quite a while.
“I have to go now. Just call me whenever you need something.” With a small bow and a secretive look on his face he made his way to the door. It almost seemed like he was trying to tell her something without actually wording it but she just looked after him with a confused look on her face before laying back down.
How am I ever going to find out who I am? If I have a family…I really hope that they don’t have to worry too much about me. How can I get out of here? I love being with Namjoon and Jimin but I can’t stay here. I just can’t! I need to find out what happened.
Her thoughts were going wild, not giving her any moment of rest. Suddenly she heard a quiet creak. Light was streaming in the room – even if it wasn’t a lot it was noticeably brighter. She stood up looking at the thin line of light on the ground following it with her eyes.
The door….
Her eyes grew wide. She walked towards the door. Her hand reached out to the door handle pulling at it and suddenly there was no restriction anymore. A light - much brighter than the candles in her room – hit her eyes, blinding her for a moment before they finally adjusted to the brightness.
