Ada: “The book compiles expressions from around the world and explains what they mean in different languages. For example, we say ‘my half orange’ in Spanish. In English you’d say ‘my better half’. Both refer to our partner or soulmate. I didn't know that expression comes from Plato's Symposium. Once we were round and complete beings, but Zeus divided us and that's when the search for our better half started. I was surprised that such a common phrase has its origins in philosophy. Expressions help us to learn more about a culture. Knowing each other is an important function of language.” #LostInTranslationAgain #EllaFrancesSanders / @gs_laura for #subwaybookreview #mexicocity 🇲🇽 (at Mexico City, Mexico)
