Her bags were packed and ready and piled by the door—his were still open on the floor, half filled with unfolded shirts and scattered toiletries as he sat typing away at the computer.
"C'mon, let's gooooo," she whined, waving the train tickets in his face and dumped a few pairs of his jeans into the suitcase before slamming it shut with her foot.
"Just a sec," he muttered as his fingers danced across the keyboard. Eponine's eyes glittered dangerously as she pulled at the back of his swivel chair, rotating him so that he was facing her instead of the computer screen before hooking her finger under his chin and whispering, "We go now."
i am sending the three musicals thing so here we go! wicked, les miserables and into the woods
ah-okay so two of these are very character packed musicals with several story lines, and wicked is a big production as well. and they're all based on books, right? (this is where i feel like recommending ragtime again, but i'm trying to have some variation, but yeah it's a musical with many strong characters based on a book - check it out!). if you want to try your hand on something more contemporary i would say hands on a hardbody, which is a really character-driven musical that's not based on a book, but on a documentary but whatever, it's great.
woodrokiro answered: coffee shop AU like the need is mighty
lostoswin answered: YES COFFEE SHOP AU PLS
k so i’m not sure if you meant mikasrockbells’ au or a different one so i’ll try to keep it vague
Alphonse has no idea why Mei has sent him to this little coffee shop when there’s a Starbucks a block away from the apartment she shares with her older brother, (who apparently is always working which is why Al’s never actually seen him). He has no clue as to what her reasoning was to send him to this overlooked shop in the middle of town just to get drinks for their study session. Faithful patronage? Who knows.
Ed was working at his mysterious job today, so Al had to take public transportation, which wouldn’t be a big deal except that he didn’t really know where he was going. Any how, after taking the 103 bus from school, (he had stayed late to help clean Mr. Armstrong’s room) he eventually was able to find the store in which he is presently standing. It’s mostly empty, save for a few people scattered at tables, and of course the barista waiting behind the counter.
“Hi, what can I get you?” he asks cheerfully. Alphonse looks up to find a guy (man?) leaning against the cash register. He’s Xingese, with a long ponytail and narrow eyes, and the apron he wears is slightly rumpled.
“Um, I’ll have a small green tea and a yuanyang to go please.”
“Sure thing! That’ll be 480 cenz, and it should be ready in a few minutes.”
“Thanks,” Alphonse said, and is about to move out of the way when he realizes there is no one behind him in line. He leans against the counter and begins to daydream when suddenly the barista’s voice snaps him into paying attention.
“Laaaaaaaaan Faaaaaaan I know you’re on break but the stirring machine isn’t working again.” A tired looking girl, (who is also Xingese, is this why Mei sent him here?) emerges from the kitchen door, pushing her bangs out of her face.
“Did you try turning it off and on?” she asks dryly.
“Yes!” Ponytail guy says, throwing his arms out in fake exasperation.
“Then why don’t you just stir it by hand?”
“Because I don’t want to?” The ponytail guy juts his lower lip out and tilts his head in what Alphonse assumes is supposed to be an effort to persuade her to do it for him. The girl crosses and uncrosses her arms, and then sighs.
“Fine,” she relents. Ponytail guy throws his arms around her and plants a dramatic kiss on her head.
“Mwah! You’re the best Lan Fan!” While her expression remains the same, Al can’t help but notice the way her cheeks flush red.
When it is at last time to pay, Al pulls the coins from his pocket and holds them out to the barista, but he appears distracted.
“Y’know,” the ponytail guy says, “I only have ever met one person with that color eyes. We don’t have those back in Xing.”
“Oh, okay…well I have the money, so do you want to-”
“Actually,” interjects the barista, “he’s in the back bussing dishes! I’ll bring him out.”
“Great,” he mutters under his breath. He makes a mental note to complain to Mei about sending him here.
“Hey you, what do you think you’re doing?! I’m in the middle of doing my job, unlike some people.”
Wait a second. He’d recognize that voice anywhere.
"Brother?” Sure enough, Edward Elric stands before him, arms covered in suds. “You work here?”
"Hey, what’s wrong with here?” pouts the ponytail guy, before saying, “Ed, I didn’t know you had a brother!”
“That’s because I wanted to keep him away from an idiot like you,” he mutters, glaring at the guy who amusingly has several inches on Ed. The girl (Lan Fan?) appears in the doorway once more, only to kick Ed in the shin and then return to the kitchen. Ed isn’t too pleased. “OW!” he howls in pain, “I know you get all pissy when someone says something about your boyfriend, but cool it will you?”
“He’s not my boyfriend!” comes her voice, and Ed rolls his eyes before turning to face his brother.
“So Al, I guess you’ve met Ling. But my question for you is, how the hell did you find out where I work?”
“I don’t get what the big deal is about you keeping your job secret, Brother,” Alphonse says, “But anyway, I had no idea you worked here. I’m only here to pick up drinks for a study session which I am very late for.”
“WAIT, a study session as in a study date? With an actual girl?”
"Yes it’s a girl, no it’s not a date. It’s just Mei from my Bio class, we have a test on Thursday.”
“Wait a second,” says ponytail guy-er, that is, Ling, leaning on Ed’s shoulder before he is promptly shoved off. “You wouldn’t happen to be talking about Mei Chang would you?”
“Yes…” Al says, his brow furrowing, “how did you-”
“She’s my half sister! She made me take this shift because she had a ‘male friend’ coming over to study and didn’t want me to scare him away, although I don’t know why.”
“Gee, I wonder,” Ed drawls sarcastically, “it isn’t like you have a face that’s either creepy looking or bizarrely happy. Who would be scared of that?”
“I’m hurt Edward,” Ling gasps theatrically, putting a hand to his chest. “How could you say something like that about me? I thought we were friends!”
“What kind of friend puts dye in dish detergent so that their friend’s hands turn green?” Ed growls. Ling laughs, batting Ed’s accusation away with the flick of a hand.
“You’re too touchy, Ed.”
“Says the one with a girlfriend who goes into battle mode whenever someone says something about her boyfriend.”
“I AM NOT HIS GIRLFRIEND!” comes the voice within the kitchen, and Ed laughs and calls back to her.
