can you explain the age thing? both in general and with Kanda as an example if it's not too much of a hassle? cuz that sounded kinda interesting
Sure! Any opportunity to chat about my actual job is welcome. I’m a forensic anthropologist and biochemist, so dead people are more my game.
So we have chronological age, biological age, and, when talking about dead things, physiological age (biological and physiological age can be the same thing in living people).
Chronological age is how many years you’ve lived, so Kanda’s chronological age is 9, because he’s only been out and about, walking around and experiencing time for 9 years (of his current life), and for me my chronological age is 29, it’s the age you give when someone asks basically, though annoyingly Kanda is slightly different here. Allen’s chronological age is 16, there I fixed it.
Biological age is the age of which your actual body says it is, so for Kanda that’s 19 as his body reflects that of a 19 year old man. In my job, I’ll have a skeleton and look at bone fusion/degradation or teeth development to give an approximate age range this person might fall into (eg. 21-25 years old), some people do fall outside these ranges as biological age is affected by external factors, like sex, ancestry, nutrition, etc.
Physiological age can be the same of biological age, but in forensics and archaeology we tend to use this term for “total age”, so that can include how long they’ve been dead. So for Kanda his total age is around 40 years, if you include his previous life, plus the 10 years he was “dead”, plus the 9 he’s been Kanda.
