Chapter 2:Â Zhang Qiling
Summary:Â Zhang Rishan passes on information to his Patriarch and discovers a few secrets his family has long hidden.
"You are... Zhang Qiling."
The qilin moved as he spoke those words, the bells echoing softly around the room as it came closer. He couldn't help but think that the sound his Patriarch created was so gentle and sweet, which was a contrast to the power this creature held. Shaking off the surprise, Zhang Rishan pushed himself back up from where he'd landed on the floor. He watched how the faint firelight reflected off of what seemed to be metal. A shiver ran through him, and he suddenly had an overwhelming urge to have a better view of his divine ancestor.
Turning, Zhang Rishan placed more wood into the fire. "You must forgive me. I am usually far more proper than this. I hope you can understand how very unexpected this is."
Once there was a proper blaze going, he faced the qilin once again, eyes roaming over the dark form that stood before him. His mind was still processing the fact that this was his ancestor, the lost Patriarch.
To Zhang Rishan, it felt like he was staring at a living, breathing shadow. It was covered from head to tail in scales, seemingly polished to a high shine and blacker than any precious stone he'd ever laid eyes on. He noted, on closer inspection, the scales glowing along the edges. Looking closer, it seemed like the body of the creature was a furnace, the scales the only thing holding that fire back. The head was accurate to the mythical creatures he'd seen in paintings. That of a dragon, with eyes as dark as its scales, and flecks of gold standing out like stars in the sky. His gaze moved up to what he could only describe as pitch-black antlers, the base and tips wrapped in decorative gold plating.
His attention then focused on the long, delicate neck. It led down to a strong graceful body that reminded him of a deer. The broad chest was covered in a highly decorated gold breastplate that wrapped back, laying just above its shoulder blades. Long legs ended in what he could only describe as dainty cloven hooves, which were also plated in gold. Zhang Rishan dared to move closer, watching the tail of a lion sway back and forth, patiently - as if the creature were allowing him this moment. The qilin's mane and tail tuft reminded him of golden fire, yet it didn't give off any light or heat as far as he could tell.
All things considered, Zhang Rishan could not remember beholding anything that could compare to the qilin's beauty. There was no doubt that he was staring at a blessed and divine creature, and the thought made him blush as he took a step back. "I'm sorry. I've never seen..." At a loss for words, he simply motioned at Zhang Qiling. "I mean, who has?"

Huo Dao Fu appreciation post part22
Noticing side characters Part7 - luo Que and other yin hotel guys
Nicknames my roommate and I called character in tomb of the sea the first time we watched it. (this was our first lost tomb show and I recently finished rewatching it after finishing all the main story line. We have not finished sound of providence) There will be spoilers
Li Cu: protag and later idiot.
Calling him protag is self explanatory, but we idiot was after he exploded the c4 in the tunnel in gutongjing.
Su Wan: oh no he’s hot.
Ok this is more of a general nickname for any character this actor plays. We started watch tomb of the sea for him.
Yang Hao: oh no he’s hots friend.
I know so creative
Su Wan+Yang Hao:
idiot squad or team idiot. This also later on includes Li Cu, but in the beginning when they are looking for Li Cu my roommate and I would go like "oh it's time to check up on team idiot and their shenanigans.
Wu Xie: no fun nickname for Wu Xie sorry. His name was the easiest to catch the fist time they said it. Later after Li Cu leaves the desert we jokingly called him Li Cu's dad or the dad that actually cares.
Pangzi: idiot squads dad.
Ok I feel a little bad for this one but he has such dad energy in this one or cool uncle.
Zhang Qiling: the quiet one/ mysterious one/who the f*ck is this.
With out the context of the rest of the series he is just this highly skilled fighter that's important to Wu Xie and is gone for some reason. I was like 90% sure with the way he was talked about he was dead. He isn't and I know that now.
Su Nan: big lesbian energy woman/ the woman in the red jacket.
Kind self explanatory. I thought she had big lesbian energy at the beginning. I keep trying to find shades of that in Ah Ning because they are similar character's (for a reason) but i just couldn't see it.  Â
Liang Wan: doctor lady.
Sorry most of these are self explanatory.
Zhang Rishan: Professor Shen/ director dude.
Ok so we just finished watching Guardian when we started watching tomb of the sea. When we fist saw Zhang Rishan in the glasses my roommate jokingly said "Professor Shen" and it kinda stuck for awhile.
Wang Ming: hot guy.
I didn't find him hot but Liang Wan did and Wu Xie was definitely using her attraction to him as a way to manipulate her.
Kan Jian: vest guy.
I know he gets rid of the vest early on in the show and wears a suit jacket and a hoodie like 85% of the show but it stuck.
Luo Que: cup guy
His fist introduction was fantastic and made us laugh. I absolutely love this character and wish he was in it more.
Hei Yanjing: black lord.
Ok this is kinda cheating because the version we were watching translated Hei ye as black lord.
Xie Yuchen: umbrella guy.
Ok so in most of the scenes he was in I was so confused it took me awhile to connect this character and Xie Yuchen from the other series. I guess that's what we get for watching tomb of the sea completely out of context.
