Also I can’t believe we’re 24 episodes in and there still hasn’t been one snake. Are we sure this show is really DMBJ? Usually we’re up to our necks in snake weirdness.

You know, if Bai Houtian is willing to let her Wu Xie crush go - which is being framed as a kind of idolising crush rather than a serious one - im totally on board for her becoming one of Pingxie’s kids. Compared to Heihua who have four now by my count, I haven’t identified any potential Pingxie kids yet in the shows I’ve watched though I’ve heard apparently in the story right after Ultimate Note there are some characters who fall into the category.

I will point out how funny it is that twice in this show people have asked Wu Xie about his taste in girls or pushed him to choose a girl and he has immediately shut the conversation down without giving any sort of answer.

He’s very happily married to his husband.

So that explains why it usually takes three years to do this test. I like that there’s actually a logical reason and not just a “because we said so” reason. Like this does actually make a lot of sense because it would take so long to memorise this logging system.

Also, although I am still very much adjusting to the total genre change, thankfully this arc is actually becoming more enjoyable than I initially thought it would be because Zhu Yilong being a hella competent Wu Xie is very cool.

I wouldn’t trust that man as far as I could thrown him even if the water wasn’t poisoned. He’s getting added to the list of old men I just don’t trust in these DMBJ series because of ✨vibes✨ . But considering I’ve yet to be proven wrong about my judgement - and he is very keen to get rid of Wu Xie - I’m expecting this guy to pull some bullshit in the upcoming test.

I made the joke about the water bottle in my head and then Wu Xie beat me to it I’m so fucking done with them 😭.

Well, that was a very loaded moment for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Also, that scar on his neck doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon and if he still has it when he sees Zhang Qiling again I do hope there’s some kind of reaction because it would be an A+ moment.

So, the murderer is a child. Is the warehouse Zhang Clan affiliated? This sounds similar to them recruiting children for their clan.

Okay I guess it’s non Zhang related but who’s terrible idea was it to keep cursed shit around children

Is this gonna be like Orphan. It feels like they must have sacrificed some kids inside there to keep the place mould free. Is it gonna be like orphan where someone who isn’t actually a child stayed in the vase and then came out to murder people?

Also, I know commenters warned me that season 1 was essentially two seasons smashed together but so far I feel like I’m watching a completely different show/genre to previous DMBJ entries and idk how to feel about that. Like I enjoy Zhu Yilong’s Wu Xie but this is definitely a switch up to what I’ve been enjoying about DMBJ shows.

He’s not as graceful at it but I guess Wu Xie took some lessons from his husband!

I love how every time someone tries to protect Wu Xie (badly) he finds a way to fall into an even bigger problem than if they’d just let him come with them and/or proves he can more than take care of himself

I’m sure Xiaoge would love that for you, Wu Xie although most of his fans are unhealthily obsessed with him and/or murderous psychopaths (see Mo Yungao). So he might need to vet this chick first but I’m sure he’d be very happy for you!

Danmei Diaries, I notice you haven’t said anything about the mute girl and Xiazi - shhhhhhh i do not see. Okay, fine I’ll share my thoughts. It’s becoming unavoidable now.

I’m having above the level of irritation as I had for Liu Sang butting into Pingxie because I have to deal with the fact that because it’s het it’s probably going to keep being pushed and might become canon. At least Liu Sang was mostly played for laughs. On a trying to be objective front aka ‘if I’d watched this before I saw Ultimate Note and the Heihua movie’ I still think I would have found this pairing bland. Though im honestly not sure how objective I can be in this particular case. I did google Ya Nu and discovered she’s a show original character and therefore I do wonder what book readers and/or people who came into this show first think about it. Since I know she’s a show original, it doesn’t help my feeling about the pairing being bland.

But I’m pretty sure people must have shipped Book Heihua before the shows started airing since I’ve heard ‘The Flowery Night’ focuses on them and that was published in the middle of Ultimate Note airing and there must have been something in the other books because Ultimate Note really hits you in the face and is like:

And that can’t have come from nowhere.

Sometimes I don’t mind added connections in adaptations, for example, I like the developed relationship between Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing in The Untamed which is completely show original. But both those characters existed in the book unlike Ya Nu so I spend my time looking at her like “whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy”.

I appreciate how much Hei Xiazi is turning her down but the framing is still kinda feeling like “he’ll come around!”

Yes, I read Heihua as having much more of a situationship than dating for a long stretch of their relationship but my message for whoever added her to the plot still stands:

Also, are we sure that some of these cases Wu Sanxing sends Wu Xie aren’t some form of an elaborate murder scheme? He gives such little information and it always ends up with someone getting attacked by corpses, beetles, or snakes, or in this case, clams.

I don’t know if they’re doing a different take or not, but I somehow doubt this story that Wu Erbai tells mostly because of how different this Chen Wenjin is compared to both other adaptations. Sorry Qi Jin idk who you are and you’re giving me the ick. I guess Erbai just has ridiculous rose coloured glasses when it comes to this woman because so far she’s been nothing but an absolute unlikeable bitch. For once, I’m not sure how Wu Sanxing’s actions led to anything going wrong here!!! How the fuck was any of this Wu Sanxing or Chen Wenjin’s fault?

Also, I’m guessing that the show has decided to conflate events in the books by bringing in Chen Wenjin into this story because I don’t see how this lines up with anything in the dive team storyline.
