In the words of Lou Engle, "It is time for this corporate Esther to frame a better, more hopeful, God-centered future for our nation by taking her place in the public square like never before. We need an entire generation—a movement—of grandmothers, mothers, and daughters to be boldly visible, persistent in persuasion, and to demonstrate the humility of our national appeal to Heaven in prayer."
Esther is a beautiful picture of becoming a catalyst for Truth, ultimately saving her nation from annihilation. A young orphan of a minority people group, she practically stumbled into favor, being chosen as the queen for the king of the Persian Empire. For those who may not be familiar with the story (I urge you to read it!), Esther’s cousin, Mordecai, found out about an evil man’s plot to wipe out their entire race through a passing law. Mordecai petitioned for Esther to do something. However, one only approached the king through invite, and at that time the king was not allowing any visitors. To go before him meant death. Yet if she didn’t do anything, the death of all her countrymen rested upon her. Mordecai pierced her heart by asking if God had perhaps elevated Esther to her position as queen for this very reason, for such a time as this? (Esther 4:13-14). Long story short, she requested her fellow Jews to fast and pray for her three days and nights. She and her handmaidens did likewise. She then risked her own life for her people—and the king had mercy upon her! What a woman of courage! Not using just words but also actions to prepare, fast, and ultimately stand before the king of Persia risking death to artfully speak up for her people. And through this, her entire nation was saved.
There are divine moments we are given to alter circumstances and change the course of history.
"Let the women arise as Esthers for such a time as this and take their place in the courts of heaven and in the public courts of man to shape history in this hour." -Lou Engle
The 3-day fast begins this Wednesday at sundown through Saturday evening, the beginning of the Jewish Holiday Purim!
Main reasons for the fast according to myself and TheCall:
1. To break the accelerated spiritual darkness over our land
2. For God’s light to be released over an entire generation
3. To pray for the President
4. Contend for this movement to reverse the decree of ‘73, Roe V. Wade, just as Haman’s decree was reversed and hold back the rising tide of anti-Semitism.
If your heart burns with this declaration and to be a catalyst of true empowerment for women, join me! I have been appalled by our current women’s movement. For change we must have unity in love. Sure, there is no possibility everyone will agree, but can we walk in love? Can we actually empower each other without tearing down one another? I believe a truly empowered woman carries strength and power in grace, humility, and the love of Christ. Love is not passive. I am praying and believing that this fast will make a difference, not just a point.
Seize the moment, and join thousands of women across the nation for such a time as this!
