I managed to find the exact photo:

It was taken during the qualifiers for the '18 World Cup against ecuador. Argentina started off poorly, and were 1-0 under after 40sec, but Messi turned things around and scores a hat trick, getting kicked down quite a bit in the process.

That's 6 days before the mv was released (17.10.2017)

looking back on the images chosen for BTY promo I really think it took away from his beauty by having these distant shots. its this really fun take on messy relationships the mv and everything about louis and bebe was a delight. but then they was the dark shadowily pics of louis and the camera placed miles away. what was that choice! thank god they dropped that vibe in the new era

The dark-toned, distanced shots create a barrier between Louis and his audience, underscored by his serious facial expression.

Chest out, chin up. Louis looks confident and assured. He knows who he is. He knows what he wants to do.

Why was the end of 2017 not a good time for Louis? (Like anything in specific, or just the building up of fuckery surrounding his career?)

Not really sure. His management JGG was in financial straits, and Rusty Eslamifar went from “managing” Louis half-assed to mocking fans outright.

Sony basically buried Just Like You, released on National Coming Out Day.

Then Miss You, which was expensive to release, performed a couple of times with expensive stage sets (Louis learned from that experience), and then killed.

There may have been some rough spots with personal life too. Look at the change in his face.
