Jamie Bannick: where do I even begin I love this boy. big ass martyr problem. in love w max and max knows it and they hooked up and it ended badly. at all times when things get uncomfortable his brain starts banging pots and pans together going MAKE A JOKE MAKE A JOKE MAKE A JOKE. his self worth directly depends on how well he can take care of everyone else (bad!!!) and yet refuses to receive the same help from others. trying his best to grapple his grief over losing Summer and failing. an absolute bi icon and we stan
Hank O’Donnell: Jamie’s bestest best friend. the only person who can call him out on his shit and not receive a defensive and snappy response bc they love each other that much. hates confrontation like would rather die. you’d have to hold a gun to his head (or be a very persistent jamie) to get him to ever communicate his feelings about something. queen of bottling feelings!!!! truly unproblematic even tho he doesnt think so. walks w a cane ever since the monster.
Philippa “Flip” Kim: absolutely that bitch in high school who excused being a bitch as “i’m just blunt and honest!” but she’s better now. a ballerina in new york!! smokes so many cigarettes it’s frightening. still cannot tell a lie--if u wanna know the real truth abt smth she will tell u. absolutely chaotic and up for anything at all time would rob a bank it wouldn’t take that much convincing other than “it’ll be funny”. would literally truly die for her friends and almost did last summer. big scar on her face from it. we dont talk about that. bi solidarity w Jamie and i love it
Max Enfield: a gay mess and a surprise fav like u think hes a dick and then he grows on u. in love w jamie (and jamie is dumb so does not know this) but got so scared abt it he retreated and knows he ruined everything. pretends to be dumb but is actually v v smart. just never has the shared braincell of the group. runs from love bc thinks he doesn’t deserve it esp w Jamie who he thinks hung the fuckin moon tbh, when he’s scared he turns it to angry or funny to hide it. fear is weakness says him and no one else!!! wonderfully sarcastic
Cooper Calloway: team leader. missing ring and pinky finger on his right hand. we also dont talk about that. the absolute mom friend and kind of a kill joy but it comes from love he just wants everyone to be safe. definitely the one that makes food for everyone at 3 AM when they’re drunk. terrified of failure and sees what happened last summer as his fault bc he made the plans. we love him even tho hes pretentious at times.
Lou Eisner: i’d do anything for them!!!!! can read anyone like a book but keeps it to themselves bc they r sensitive and loving and r always there for anyting ppl need but won’t push or persist. They just Know Everything and will shut up abt it until u come to them w a “secret” and they r like yeah i know lol. but do keep any secret u tell them and wouldnt tell it even if they had a gun to their head!! probably knows all of their friends’ love languages bc they r an angel. very good at knowing exactly what ppl need and how and why. love getting high. obsessed w the supernatural they know every cryptid ever probably.

Probably the scene where the Bastards all finally reuinte together after a year apart!!!!! and get super high and have the best time. oh those were the days.
second to that is probably when they find Jamie at the bridge. I love these kids sm
💖: are you planning on publishing it? if so, how?
this and wtdss I definitely wanna publish but it still feels v far in the future so figuring stuff out. have a few friends of friends who r published YA authors that I have talked to!! We shall see. I definitely want HFoT out in the world!! it deserves it I think. even if my actual writing quality says otherwise lol

5: Which OC deserved better?
my first draft Sawyer in wtdss was garbage tbh but luckily since then i’ve made it a lot better I rly made him an unlikable Dick for a while. also Hank in my current WIP (Hearts Full of Teeth). he is the best and I do plan to give him a Good Happy Ending bc he very deserves it
10: If you had to write a novel about one of the side characters in your current WIP, which character would you choose?
kind of not really an actual answer but I do rly want to do a sort of short story thing of the characters in my current WIP while their best friend Summer was alive/the first time they fought the monster but I also feel like it would ruin the integrity of the actual book so idk :/. also bb Callie in this WIP deserves several thousand novels and I adore her
17: How far along are you in your current WIP? How long have you been working on it?
like….plot wise I don’t rly know?? bc I don’t outline?? bc I am Garbage and Am Too Lazy and love the sweet abandon of making all my shit up as I go. but I only started it in late september and im like over 100 pages in by now, it’s definitely the fastest I’ve worked through a WIP like im just cruising tf through which is great but also makes me worry that there is about to be a sever plot hole or a huge block on my horizon aaaaa. im only just finally getting to the meaty part of the plot tho and it’s very exciting and im starting to sort of foggily see the rest of the book til the end which is my Favourite Place to Be in a WIP!! lets hope I don’t Fuck It For Myself

💙: how has the idea changed between starting it and where it is now?
I think just like…i was making it creepy for the sake of being creepy and that was more important to me than the actual characters etc, and now it’s still creepy but at the heart its about friendship and love and bein brave even when it’s hard which is nice.

nell: new in town. is making it very obvious. reckless and at times inconsiderate, likes to pretend she is a Cool Badass but secretly is terrified of both the town and also abt being alone and no one liking her. she wants to protect herself from being hurt at all costs which sometimes means she tries to hurt ppl before they can do it to her first. all she’s ever wanted is rly rly good friends and people that make anywhere feel like home.
maddox: the younger margrave brother. the most observant person u will ever meet. tell him something once in passing and he will remember forever: ur favourite drink, the name of ur mother that he’s never met, how you’re scared of the way u always seem to see eyes hiding in the fields out of the corner of ur eye. he looks up to his older brother sawyer a lot and sees himself as inadequate compared to him but he is one of the best friends u could ever have. just wants everyone to be happy so bad.
agatha: maddox’s childhood best friend and the mayor’s daughter. liked and respected by everyone but is struggling to become an Individual instead of just Daughter to the Mayor. is suffocated by her parents’ expectations of her and sees all of her feelings as an Inconvenience so she keeps them buried and is very good at always appearing controlled and composed. saw a body in the woods a few years ago and ever since then she kind of just cant stop seeing it, in her dreams and in dark hallways and under the static on the TV.
sawyer: no one remembers him. he left the town before his senior year of high school and apart from his family, no one remembers him. every time he comes back to visit it’s like everyone is seeing him for the first time and it tears him up and he hates it. he wants to become a doctor bc the only thing that helps him with his hurt is knowing he can take away other people’s. his feelings and well-being are of very little importance to him. did some pretty stupid shit that rly strained his relationship w his brother and carries immense guilt about it. (he doesnt know maddox already forgives him for it, really, and just wishes sawyer would talk to him again)

💕: what has your favorite scene been?
the four friends outside the gas station is always one of my favs that i go back to. it’s this weird thing bc it could be a typical Teenage Hangout thing they r doing but they’re also covered in blood and rly fucked up over eveything that happened. I just think it epitomizes the book so well–there’s so much shit going on and they are hurting and they are not normal but they are still teenagers and best friends and kids when it comes down to it. things r so bad but they’re not bad bc they have each other for it to be bad with.
💝: who has your favorite character arc? give a brief summary
in the first book definitely nell. she starts off so immature and reckless and working so hard to be something she’s not and acting like she doesn’t care, and she just kinda learns that vulnerability and loving people is cool and important and Not Lame or weak. she learns that you have to open yourself up to being hurt and that it is inevitable but worth it for the relationships u find if u stop being so scared. she comes into this town fucking resenting it and not giving a fuck abt how her actions have consequences and by the end she’s walking into a forest ready to die for this town and everything/everyone in it. not because she has to but because she wants to.

Owen from A Human and a God !! He’s so bright and full of belief, he just didn’t fit this narrative as the MC!
19: What does your editing/revising process look like?
I am a fast drafter, so I’ll have the first draft done in under a month typically. Then, I sit on it for months, at minimum. Then, I go back through and read the draft and make notes on what needs to change. Then, again, I sit on it. I think about revisions. What I want, how the draft differs from the image in my head, etc. and then, then, I completely rewrite the novel from scratch. I’ll use bits and pieces from the original, but I try not to rely on that too much because I think it inhibits growth and usually, the things from the old draft don’t match the voice in the new one!
