I've always avoided Mabel/Yuri bc I've always had a lot of trouble bringing them together in ways that felt fun, convincing and interesting. I'm realizing now that making them understand that they're more alike than they initially believed a journey inner of itself is a really good way to do things.

I like the dynamic of these two being simultaneously enamored with and intimidated by each other and slowly coming to realize that there's much common ground and, even when there isn't, their love and respect for each other keeps them connected anyway. At some point, Mabel can be happy to listen to Yuri ramble on about a novel Mabel's never read and still enjoy it because it's her; she's familiar, Mabel likes her, likes hearing her talk, and she can infer a few things anyway. Same for Yuri, who can lose herself in how cute Mabel sounds when she's just prattling on about her day or going over the specifics of this fighting game she likes. They're both good listeners, at the end of the day — they just need to reach a point where they can actually take advantage of that fact.
